I have like 3 low mid-grade argentina coins & I think theyre attractive. From other coinage I have seen they are pretty nice.

I would love to get more but some I am attracted too tend to be a little pricey.

I really like the pre-1900 1 centavo (I think that's what it is). It looks like a really early U.S. coin. Unfortunately every one I've had the opportunity to buy had a huge problem with it, like a hole or it was covered in gunk.

Very cool coins moneyer12, I too share your fascination with these coins, as well as those of many other South and Central American countries coinages.

I like the design in your first post of the peso with the man on horseback, I have several of this issue and always liked the design, there is another nice one of the similar time period with a ship on it, I also like that very much, I haven't got them nearby or I would look and tell you what denominations and dates, but when I get a chance I will post some of my Argentine coins and show you the few I have in my collection. I actually have an interesting 1938 20 centavos that has heavy doubling on the date, and the stars on either side.... only on the reverse, but very noticeable with any magnification, doubled die? I do not know.... and it is very hard to photograph, and almost impossible to see the doubling anywhere but on the stars on the photos I have unless you have a well trained eye.... I need to take more with my newer camera.

Nice coins, glad you found a new area to collect.... there are many beautiful coins of Argentina out there, even some of the modern ones, and I don't normally like modern coins too much. I look forward to seeing your coin set.

Count me in on this one too, Rex - the love of South American Coinage I mean.
Unfortunately, I do not have any coins from Argentina in my collection. I have been wanting to buy an 8 Reales Provincias del Rio de a Plata, but they have gotten very pricey lately, and you can't have it all. Those are very nice coins.
I do have an extensive collection from the Republic just to the west of Argentina and over the Andes, Though: Chile.

i think that south america is a very neglected area for coin collectors, there are some absolute gems to be had from the latin half of the continent...............

I completely agree, Moneyer. There are some very appealing coins minted in Latin America.

Don't want to bring your thread off-topic, but here is a coin from Chile minted in the first year of that countries final independence from Spain in 1818.

This coin was minted scarcely one year after Chilean patriots joined by many Argentinians crossed the Andes mountains from Argentina into Chile and faced the Spanish for the final battle on the plains of Chacabuco.
This army of chilean and argentinian patriots was led by General San Martin, an Argentinian, and the Chilean general O'Higgins (of mixed creole and Irish descent). The patriots soundly defeated the spanish bring to an end spanish rule on the southern tip of the latin american continent. This coinage is known as the Volcano type and was minted in 1 Peso (8 reales), 2 reales , 1 real, and 1/2 real denominations.

i agree another massive favourite of mine are the pre 1980 bolivian coins, and because the majority of countries are not really that ols earlier items are easier to find than the coresponding european or asian coins. i am really tuned into latin american collecting now and hope to get as many as possible in my collection. it just shows that there are new grounds to discover all the time in numismatics.

I agree with others here. Argentina and all of South America have some interesting and beautiful coins. I would say Mexico is in that league as well. I have started getting interested in this whole area, especially 19th century. I just wished I bought more when silver was lower.

This is the coin that originally got me interested in Argentina coins. Evgeney has posted a much nicer example than mine. In 2009, I enjoyed a couple weeks visiting with friends in Argentina.

The NGC slab label is also in error

This is a die cap error coin from Argentina. The NGC slab label is also in error. It is actually a 10 centavos coin (not the 50 centavos as written on the slab). I recognized this because I was spending the 10 centavos during my visit. Also, if you very carefully examine the reverse of the coin, you can see a spread image of "10 centavos".

    more error coins from Argentina

I purchased these coins and this rock in Buenos Aires. The rock is called Rhodochrosite. I believe it is the national rock of Argentina. The coins are off center 10 Pesos, off center 5 pesos, blank planchet for 10 pesos, and a 10 centavos with 180-degree rotated die. I enjoy them & hope you do too.
