Hey guys, Quick question for the group. Took a flyer on an eBay purchase yesterday. This 1950 dime looked like a proof to me even though the listing says uncirculated. Wanted to get some expert feedback based solely on what I was looking at...the marginal picture posted in the listing. Proof or business strike? Thanks in advance, hope the link works... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=110692500942&si=uFsb%252FfCzz4bB8EFE4Z7MQZX0ND8%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
Thanks gbroke! I know the value of the coin is pretty nominal either way here, but I wanted to add a proof '50 to my collection, and most of the nicer slabbed ones are a bit expensive. Also, was just interested in whether I was overlooking anything that would give away the fact that it wasn't a proof. Anyone else?
You did real well for the price if it's a proof. They are valued at $15. However, this one appears to have been handled improperly. It seems to be pretty dirty. Hopefully a dime guy can drop in and give an opinion.
Yeah, i know it did look like it might even be a briefly circulated proof, or something that got thrown in with some silver dimes, but I figured since the photo was pretty bad, it might just be the lighting. Don't know, just bought it yesterday, so should have it next week. May be pleasantly surprised, but either way, won't be too disappointed. The price was right to take a chance...
