I am about to buy a lot of coins from a guy that i have bought coin's off of before. He has a 1863 Civil War Token I know nothing about I am hopeing someone know's about this coin. I will try to explain it! Miss Liberty is on front, she has a cornet hairdo, her head is facing right. On the back it looks like a bucket, two spear's with rope hocked to them and a single rod coming up from the middle and it looks like a hat on top of it. On the right hand side it has a raised number 61 and a union in a scroll. I am sorry if this sound's a little crazy I have not scene this token It was explained this way by the guy selling it! I have no picture. I am hopeing someone on here know's of the token!

Ho do you know it is 1863? You didn't say anything about a date on it. Did the seller describe everything on it?

Obviously a picture would be a huge help. What, he has no cell phone with a camera and email? How droll.

Lance is right step, we need a pic. I'm fairly familiar with Civil War tokens, but don't recognize it by your description. There are dozens of Miss Liberty representations on these tokens, but only 3 or 4 face right. It could be what's called a non-contemporary token, or one struck shortly after the close of the war. It's also possibly a medal or a new type as of yet undocumented. Do you know the size and metal composition? We definately need a pic though. Sorry I can't help more

i think it's called a Union 61 Cilvil War Token its not a bucket on the reverse but a drum and union is not in a scroll but infact union is written on a cannon. Bruce does that sound like something you have sceen. The date 1863 is on front of token

Now I know what you're talking about step. It could be one of six different die numbers. It's either Fuld 350, 351, 352, 352A, 352B, or 353. If the "61" is on the canon then it's a 350 die. That sounds like what you have. I need more info on the Liberty side to be able to help you with that one. Is there the word "Liberty'" or the phrase "United we Stand, Divided we Fall" around the rim, or are there just stars around the portrait?

Offhand it sound like it might be a Flags/Drum/Cannons token paired with one of 6 Liberty portraits facing right. A good picture of both sides will allow us to be specific.

Here's a 45 and 350. Different tokens explains the images. The 45 is a guess. It could be 6 or 7 ones. The 350 sounds right. Getting close, stepthenwho?

Of course I don't know much about tokens so take anyone's word before mine.

That's a beautiful token Lance, it looks nearly full red by your pics. Even though its an R-2, it's worth a pretty penny in that great condition. I think the 45 die is the only one paired with the 350, so step probably has the same combination.

I probably should have worded that differently, Bruce. Those are images of separate tokens, and not mine. I think I got them both off Heritage. I was just offering them up to stepthenwho to see if we were on the right track.

    Apologies if I confused anyone.

No apology necessary Lance. I'll bet you would like to own a nice red token like that though...I know I would. Thanks for posting the pics.

This one used to have a lot of red, but it's been turning brown:

Nice! I don't have many CWT's. I see some pretty ones and am tempted to chase them but I have too many distractions as it is.

I picked up this one at a show a few years ago.

Both beautiful CWTs guys. I used to have a high grade collection of these tokens, but sold it several years ago. I had about a dozen sutler tokens too. I wish could have been able to keep it, but things were tight and I had to let it go.

I came across this coin you have pictured, and I can't find any info on it anywhere. I am not a collector and I am 1000% clueless to this. Could anyone help me with any info??

The token you have pictured here is the exact token I recently came across. I cannot find any information on it. I am not a collector, I have no clue what I'm looking at. Can anyone help me with this? Or tell me who to go to for info?

If you can post pictures, theres folks here that can help. There's a lot of similar, but not identical, tokens, and condition is a big factor too. Looking for civil war tokens on ebay may give you some idea of value, etc.

The book, "Patriotic Civil War Tokens", by George and Melvin Fuld, is a good resource. But I dont have one, and I'm not sure how much of their info is available online.
