I haven't posted any dimes on CT in a while so here are a few I picked up recently:

That eagle looks so cool. One day I hope to be able to add these to my ever growing dime collection. They even look awesome worn. Nice additions!

Very nice dimes. Most of all I like that 1809. Nice original (and quite scarce!) coin. Congratulations on that one.

What is your opinion on the scarcity of the 1809 compared to the 1811/09, 1822 and 1828 Large Date (JR-2)?

Here's what I believe is an 1820 STATESOFAMERICA variety

I love the Bust Dime design Hunter, and you have some really nice ones in your collection. Please post some more.

I think you are correct. Compare with this example from the R. Logan collection (ex Norweb).

Another nice and scarce bust 10C.

I personally think the 1822 is the most scarce, then the 1809 followed closely by the 1811/09 and 1828 large date. Watching ebay sales over the past 6 months or so I would say the 1811/09 traded the least, followed by the 1822, and the 1828 large date and 1809 are close contenders. I know ebay sales don't mean a lot, but there are normally 13 pages of bust dimes on ebay all the time. These coins can be acquired from specialty dealers without too much trouble, it's just gonna cost ya :D How does your opinion compare to mine?

Collector1966: Those are some nice dimes you posted...I haven't acquired an 1820 JR-1 STATESOF variety yet, that is a nice one you have there :D

Bruce, thanks for the compliment...you know I love John Reich's design...I'll keep posting some dimes and hopefully more people will join in posting some of theirs too.

Very nice '09. Congrats. If ranked by availability...I'd go 09/11, 09, 22. There are dozens of known hoards of 1822s.

My own observations based on watching auction appearances (mainly Heritage), and also Ebay over the years is that 11/09 is most seldom, followed by 1809 and then closely followed by 1822. This appears to somewhat contradict the published rarity ratings since the 1811/09 is rated R-3 while the others are R-4.

The one that puzzles me however is the 1828 JR-2. It is rated only as R-3, but it appears much less often (in my opinion) than the more established rarities. This may be a reflection of its true scarcity, OR possibly that since people consider it less rare (than the others) it attracts less attention and is offered for sale less often.

Here are a few of my dimes, at least the one I have on-hand to take pictures of:

Here are 2 1822's purchased many years ago.

Interesting comment by Cappedbustdimes regarding the existence of hoards of this date. I wonder how many are really extant. The figure I hear most often is 200-300. Mostly in VG or lower, but also some in very high grades AU-MS.

Here is an 1823 over 2 variety, and an 1831. The 1831 has unfortunately been cleaned, and has minor scratches, now retoning naturally. If anybody can attribute this coin I would be very greatful.

Finally, here is an 1828 Large date which I bought off Ebay a couple of years ago.
Also, an 1801 JR-2 - not a capped bust dime, rather the draped bust type.

I like that 1801 Draped Bust dime. I would like to add one or two to my collection :)

Eduard you have some really great dimes, I can only hope to have an 1822 as nice as either of yours one day. Your 1831 is a the JR-1 marriage (R-1). If you have more to post I would love to see them :D

ldhair: Thats a great looking 1837!
The 1837 coins that display die cracks from damaged dies due to the introduction of the steam press is very historical and quite interesting to me.
