Has anybody else become frustrated with this? I have recently sold a bunch of stuff all accurately described and photographed, shipped promptly, and for a very reasonable price. I always start my auctions at .99 cents and let the market decide the items value. Everything packaged with care, and so on. Out of 20+ items only a fraction of buyers have left feedback!! What a joke. I sent polite reminders asking buyers to leave feedback if they enjoyed the experience and am wits end on this one. Any suggestions? Should i just withhold leaving feedback until it has been given?
If you don't leave feedback as the seller, that may be why you aren't receiving feedback from the buyer. I bought hundreds of items on ebay. Sometimes, 30 or 40 at a time from a couple different sellers. I would only leave feedback once a month. I would do them all at once. Just something to think about..
As a buyer my part of the transaction is done when I pay. So the seller should leave feedback when payment is received. I only leave feedback if the seller leaves it after I pay them. If they don't leave feedback I don't either. As a seller I leave feedback as soon as payment is received. I properly describe everything and am confident on what I have in my listings. The ones IMO that don't leave feedback are the ones that want to get revenge or get even if they sell something and receive a negative. As for sending them a note to leave feedback I would think that's asking for trouble as some will take it as you are bothering them and will ding you out of spite. When I seller asks/tells me to leave feedback first I just say My part was done problem free and you should leave it first ( If I remember right it actually states something like that in the fine print) If not I don't leave a fb
As a buyer I only leave FB once I get the item. Seems most buyers, myself included will leave feedback once the buyer leaves FB. I don't leave any if teh buyer takes forever to pay as well. Anyway, even when I leave feedback I only get a small percentage left back as FB. I get more FB when I am the buyer.
Maybe I am just lazy, or I don't think the feedback system is really worth anything because of all of the games played with it over the years. Ebay is fine to work with, but there have been so many problems with the feedback system I don't even pay attention to it, don't worry about mine, and don't leave any anymore. The best thing Ebay did was have Paypal. That encourages me that I have protection as a buyer, therefor the danger of bad sellers is minimized greatly to me. Maybe your buyers are like me, recognizing the feedback system as flawed, knowing they have protection now so not even paying attention to it. I just looked back, and the last 2 things I bought 1 had a feedback above 10,000, and the other less than 30. I didn't even know that until now, and didn't pay attention to it at the time. Chris
I am currently selling off my collection on eBay and as I have done it in rounds (round 5 coming up!) I have noticed that every round on average 3 out of 30 people don't leave feedback. I always leave feedback as soon as I see that they have paid. It lets them know (in my mind) that I have started the process of getting the coin out to them. It appears to me that sometimes they simply don't want to leave feedback and as jester said, prodding them will more likely draw a result you may not desire. I write it off to human nature. Some people just won't leave it at all. Some were unhappy in some way but feel it to be their own fault, but for that reason won't leave a positive, there's a million possible reasons not to. Most of which you have no control over. Think of it as a cost of doing business. At least you're not getting neutraled or negged for no reason.
The problem with this is that some people DO care about feedback. I only have 10 feedback, which some people see as bad and won't bid on my items. If you buy something from me and I left feedback promptly and you received your item as described, I expect positive feedback whether you care about it or not. I am currently waiting for 2 people to leave feedback. No one ever responds to ANY of my messages. I'm just trying to be nice.
I guess I just don't see the point, how often do you "leave feedback" at any other store you shop at? Once you purchase your groceries, gas or whatever do you track down the manager and leave feedback? Unless you are totally dissatisfied you are not gonna bother. I see E-bay as just another store, If I am totally unhappy with something I will let you know, If you don't hear from me that means everything is all right.
I have never understood this system...the games people play with it. I always do it the same way...not matter what. Here is my process as buyer: 1) Purchase Item 2) Immediately Pay with Paypal 3) Wait for Item to Arrive 4) Leave Positive Feedback one I have the item and it's as described. If something is wrong I contact the seller and discuss it prior to leaving feedback. As seller, here is what I do: 1) Item has closed and is paid for 2) Immediately Leave Feedback 3) Ship Item IMHO, it doesn't matter if the other leaves feedback...they should, and they are supposed to. But, I don't believe in this whole "withhold feedback" stuff. If the other party completes their part of the deal then they deserve positive feedback as soon as they have done their part. As a seller...that's when they pay and as a buyer it's when you receive the item as described. It's that simple. Feedback has become this ridiculous tool or threat to get your way and it's just wrong. I do what I believe is right...and in my experiences you're better off if you do. And if the other party doesn't leave feedback...sure, it's annoying. But, move on. It's not the end of the world and it's happened to all of us.
Ditto! once the transaction is complete make sure they leave feedback once you have They will just forget about you!
I believe this feedback system is a good form for buying and selling by mail order. Stores that you can walk into are right there for you to see what is there and who is there. On Ebay there are no way to know nothing other than the feedback system. I use it as a gage to decide who to buy from. Depending on the buyer protection is ok, but I want what I'm buying not some way to get my money back. IMO Thanks Big Ed
As a seller, positive feedback is meaningless. The most one can truthfully do is state, "Fast payment, good communication." What else is there that you can do as a seller unless you actually do withhold feedback until the item is received and the buyer has communicated one way or the other on the issue? Are you sure you really do want this buyer back after having your coin switched and a case opened? Was it really a pleasant experience when the buyer communicates trying to use negative feedback or worse as a "bargaining tool" to "renegotiate" the price? Only about a quarter of my sales leave feedback. When I purchase on eBay, I take into consideration the fact that other sellers most likely have the same problem as the one presented in this thread...some/many/most buyers simply do not bother with leaving feedback unless there is a problem. Because of this, even a 92% rating never "scares me off." This is especially true when perusing such sellers and seeing ignorant buyers leaving negative feedback because of the post office. Item is received damaged, seller refunds...what's up with the negative? It's the same as with the DSRs. Feedback and DSRs are not based on fact, they are based on corruptible opinion. Some buyers are just as unscrupulous, greedy, and dishonest as some sellers. I could personally care less for feedback as both a buyer and seller. There are plenty of venues as a buyer to remedy a bad purchase without the "help" of eBay or PayPal. Likewise, as a seller, it is my responsibility to ensure the accuracy of my marketing as well as transport to the purchaser for acceptance. If the purchaser is happy with the transaction, and lets others know, all the better. But, very rarely, if ever, will you turn a bad or disgruntled customer that has already made up their mind on the situation. I leave feedback when I package and ship the item out, and leave the rest to the buyer's own discretion. I won't "remind" someone to leave feedback. If there was no negative, then obviously all went well. I'd rather have no feedback than to chance upsetting a client and receiving retaliatory negatives.
If you are Feedback hunting, then you're gonna get left out in the cold. Its just used as blackmail anyway, for the most part.
What gets me is that the whole point of feedback is to rate the whole transaction experience. But I keep seeing attitudes like "As a buyer my part of the transaction is done when I pay." or "I leave feed back as soon as I receive payment." If the buyers part is done once he pays, and the sellers is done once he ships than I guess none of the rest of these possibilities have anything to do with the transaction: Item doesn't arrive or buyer claims it didn't, item arrives damaged, Insurance claims need to be filed, item is not as described, buyer tries to extort a partial refund, buyer wants to return item, seller needs to give refund, returned item doesn't arrive, seller refuses to give refund, seller wants to charge a restocking fee, etc etc etc. None of these things are part of the transaction???? NO, the transaction is not over with until both sides of the deal are satisfied. Either the seller has been paid and the buyer has his item and is satisfied with it or the item has been returned and the buyer has his refund. Once one of those two occurs THEN the transaction is over and feedback rating the transaction should be left.
