So what could one expect from high to low end on value. And what would you do if it were yours? I just want to try to determine what is the best option for me. I am going to check the reeding and get back to you all.
Understand but from what I've been told the one side should not be blank since it has reeding, is that correct? Also the rarity of a blank on the end of a roll is at least in 40. I may just have to put it on eBay to see what it could bring.
So would I, I can feel the reeding with my fingernail through the paper and you can see the marks made by the reeding after I've run my nail over it.
How do you know that it's reeded if you haven't removed it from the roll? Yes, pics! Crack that baby out. This should be good.
In the first picture are those little scuff marks/reflections around the perimeter? They look almost like some sort of wording to me, though heavily worn down. I'm not familiar with the roll you have but could it be possible that it is in fact a circulated roll, and that the end coin is simply worn down by chemicals/machining? I wouldn't generally offer such an inquiry but if the coin does have reeding it might make sense to consider the possibility of having a PMD coin rather than a blank/planchet. Regardless it is a cool coin and scenario; I would probably keep it for fun (I like elements of my collection that have uncertain value, that way I can imagine some ), perhaps if you're interested in selling you could put it on eBay for a premium. But if there are more of those in there.... and they actually are blanks... To crack or not to crack, that is the question.
He's right!! There is something there! You can just make out an outline and then "words" around the outside.
Here are the pictures I took of the Reeding nail marks under a magnifying glass. So my question is what can we ascertain from this new bit of info?
At least that the mint "tried" to stamp it. With your magnifying glass, can you make out any of the words or shapes on the coin? Can you tell which state quarter it was intended to be?
No, the first pictures show the planchet is blank on the one side of course my question is if the other side should have any stamp or not.
My vote is YES, it would be stamped. In your first set of photo's I would swear there was extremely weak impressions on the coin. Must be shadows and such.
