Here is a 1964-D Washington Quarter that I recently acquired. It has been slabbed by PCGS. What do you think PCGS graded the coin and do you agree with that grade? Note: the horizontal fine lines that appear to be hairlines from a cleaning are on the slab, not the coin.
I do not care what the grade is (XF/AU maybe). That looks to me like an unattributed Type C 1964D Washington quarter! If so, you just cherry-picked a really nice variety coin in any grade. Congrats! TC
Well, that's a little disappointing. I was hoping that wasn't going to get figured out so fast...but TopCatCoin was on top of it. Yes, this 1964-D is a Type C reverse and that is why it is significant. This is attributed on the slab. So, now that's been discovered...what is the grade?
Good luck! Way back when they were estimated at 1 in 12,000 1964 D type A's. One good PUP, if you have the coin in hand, are the center lines in relief on the tail feathers. They don't show up well in some pictures.
I have always thought that EF was "more official" than XF. The reason is...EF stands for extra fine. But, that's jut my own opinion. I think it's like calling a proof70 a PF70 or a PR70...it all means the same thing. Also, I will reveal the grade in another day or two.
AU50 is my guess, strike looks weak, could go AU55 since its pretty ding-free. Good snag! Checked my '64s....no Type "C" coins for me, but I never knew about it until now. Thanks for sharing. So whats it grade?
I'm sorry you didn't find any. Also, check your 56-64 Philly's for the Type B reverse which is also desirable. Here is a link for the diagnostics: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3707283 As for the grade...I'm going to give it a couple more days before I reveal it. Probably post it on Friday. I want to give others a little more time to see the thread.
