HA, I was watching that auction but my gut said to not bid so I didnt. But for the amount you paid, it isnt too bad of a mistake should the toning be artificial.

I am still in the market for a fairly cheap Sev. A. but im being exceptionally picky.

Im debating on the Spes, Pax, or Victoria Augusti inscribing VOT X on shield. Really like Spes but its so darn expensive, even a $65 I found, which seems like too much for as common as him.

I don't think it's artificial, the seller wouldn't go through that work to AT it, only to upload bad photos. My main concern is if my imagination is just expecting too much. We will see.

And $65 really isn't too bad if it was a good portrait of Alexander. denarii have gone up a bit since my year break...been seeing that all month. lol.

I dunno, just didnt care for that coin's surface much.

As for $65 spes, its on ebay if you look. I just have other coins higher on my want list. I really liked a Victoria Augusti inscribing VOT X on shield I found for $40, negatives were it has some slight porosity surfaces & weak weight at 2.1g. But the legends were all there as was a decent portrait.

I dunno...thinking it over the next few days.

As for Denarii going up, very true. Thats why I was so happy to get my Julia Soaemias so super cheap.

Looking at all the seller's coins I see a lot I don't like. He may just be a terrible photographer but the look is brown grease. I will be interested in an update when the coin is in hand.

Several of you are a great deal more into bargains from overseas than am I. I recently broke a personal rule and bought a coin from India for about 1/4 (including postage) what eBay sellers in the US or Canada were asking. The coin arrived just fine two days short of two months after I paid. This seller has a coin I would like but I would really like to see a report on why the photos look so odd before bidding at more than a low junk box level. (BTW, I'm not in the market for a Severus Alexander.)

Longest ive had to wait is two weeks, and that was with the spain seller stating 4-6 weeks. Alot have been from Australia and thats usually 2 weeks also. So I would continue to buy from those countries again.

I admit I am hesitant with Turkey & India, not sure if I could wait 2 months.

Doug, were you happy with the coin & saving some $ at the same time?

To update, I bought the $40 Severus Alexander mentioned in this same thread. Despite it's listed faults, I was very happy to spend that little for the same coin and also # of faults for $90 on Forvm. Best of all, its a scarcer reverse variety of him.
