I see this guy always selling very expensive coins with no reserves and it seems like quite a few people have had problems receiving their coins from him. I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this guy? He also makes me feel like he is not from US the way he puts an S on every (IE "1884 cc morgan dollars").

Looks as though they sell often . You have to ask yourself the question " Do I feel Lucky " ? Personally, I would refrain from doing business with this seller for the simple fact that there seems to be no effort made on their part to make a dissatisfied customer , satisfied . Even considering the fact that some folks just can't be satisfied.

Looks like considerably less than 1% of their transactions are bad on an ongoing basis. The negatives I'm seeing wouldn't be enough to keep me from giving them a try.

The Guy has 6470 positive feedback's and 24 Negative.
I know a few Ebay sellers and I can't believe what they have to put with.
I you went into a big dept store and could do a P/N feedback on them
you would problem never shop there again. And I'm talking stores that have been in business for years.
    Just a though

The seller is well known for shill bidding the auctions with alternate eBay accounts. So none of his auctions are truly "no reserve" auctions. But if he has a coin you need and you're willing to pay the retail price, then have at it. But don't expect a fair auction.

A shill is someone paid to artificially pump a product. Let's say I ran a business that was slow, I could pay a few people to act as customers and create artificial excitement so that you would bid on my products. I don't know if you saw "Boiler Room", but the idea is the same.

The guy sells coins and...flat screen TV wall mounts. An interesting combination of merchandise.

Thanks I had no idea this kind of thing went on.
I try to deal with the same sellers several who have become friends.
And I know nothing like that is going on.

A shill in the eBay context is far worse than your description. A shill artificially bids up the price of a coin, to soak the buyer/winning bidder with the added cost. In many cases, the shill is often the seller himself.

It is highly illegal and against the rules/policies of eBay, however, it's also hard to police/enforce.

All the shill needs, is a separate eBay account from his seller's account, and no sense of integrity.

I was watching a few auctions from this guy last week. Really wanted to bid on a couple. The problem is among his bad feedback is a complaint about a slab being tampered with!

The seller has never responded to this complaint.

I don't know how a buyer is supposed to trust a seller like that.

If it is Robert Hughes, you can always call the ANA and see if there are any ethical complaints there. Also, other regulatory agencies are bound to get complaints, but they rarely get positive "complaints". He is a big advertiser. Could be he doesn't want to be bothered with responding to complaints on "chicken feed" material, which someone else in his business may be responsible for.

I just received a 1917-d dime I purchased from neyronix/RHLE. Communication wasn't the greatest -- I received notification of shipment after the USPS delivery notice, but the coin is exactly as shown.

I can't speak to the use of shills, but the same seller had the same coin listed as a Buy It Now item for quite a while. That listing was at the full NGC price guide figure (for an NGC coin); I paid about 2/3rds of that.

eBay SELLER of rare coins going by id ...

To reply to the CoinTalk question, I can share with you a few details on this seller. First off, I have not been wronged by this seller so this is not in retaliation. I'm just stating the facts as you can see for yourself on the ebay site regarding this seller. Check out several of the sellers bidders in each week's auctions, especially the auctions of the most expensive and rarest coins. Interesting how the same bidders seem to appear in these pricey auctions, and interestingly enough these bidders rarely win any of this seller's auctions. Next fact, take a look at the seller's feedback area, and you will also see that, in those auctions where these bidders actually are highest bidder and win the coin, the high bidder never appears in the seller's feedback area. So in other words, these "high frequency bidders" that rarely win, but when they do, never leave any feedback on this seller's feedback board. Hmmm, why do you suppose this is? Ok, hear's a couple of the most frequent bidders to look for. Keep in mind, I can't give you entire ebay id as only partial id is given on bidders along with number of feedback the respective bidders have on ebay currently. However, it's just enough data to track these "high frequency bidders" and keep notes, which I've now been doing for over six months on this seller. Here are 2 of the highest frequency bidders that are "in connectiong" to this seller's auctions : l***a[IMG]( 1186[IMG]) , d***a[IMG]( 357[IMG]) . SERIOUSLY FOLKS, YOU TELL ME, IS THIS SHILL BIDDING ON BEHALF OF THE SELLER OR WHAT! ? I'M AVOIDING THIS SELLER LIKE THE PLAGUE FOR THIS VERY REASON. And, when I look at the amount of bidding activity from these 2 bidders WITH THIS PRECISE SELLER, they have the highest of all bidders each month at 98% and 98% respectively. AND KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS ON THOUSAND DOLLAR COINS. STILL THESE BIDDERS RARELY WIN AND WHEN THEY DO, THEY NEVER LEAVE FEEDBACK. Done my homework here everyone. I highly recommend that you do your own research and remember the old saying "buyer beware". Another saying that comes to mind..."there's a sucker born every day!" . If you look closely, you'll see that many times these "high frequency bidders" for this seller draws in one innocent uninformed bidder who gets caught up in the apparent bidding war as the price grinds higher just prior to the close of auction. He ends up taking the bait from the "high frequency bidders" and there you have it... mission accomplished by seller. He just landed the big sucker fish to take the hook, line and sinker. . . C A C H I N G - C A C H I N G !

Without knowing this seller at all and looking at their auctions, I immediately thought this too. Then, check the bidders out....hahahaha...most of them have a ton of bids on only his coins. A crafty shiller ebay can't manage to bust.

    Someone ought to alert eBay.

Maybe it's just coincidence, maybe not. But eBay should at the very least conduct an investigation given the overwhelming circumstantial evidence.

I have bought from Robert Hughes (the seller in question). Several times. And only once was I unhappy about the coin. It was returned and after too many phone calls and emails, and too long a delay (by my standards, not his) I got a refund. The other coins were "as described" and I was happy with them.

It is widely agreed that "neyronix" uses shills. IMO it's unethical and it is against ebay's rules. But it is difficult to police and ebay seems reluctant to do anything about it. No doubt the seller pays ebay and PayPal handsome fees.

Shills are used to pump up the price. Sellers privately defend shilling as a way to protect themselves. But there are legitimate ways to do this through a reserve or a higher start price. Using a shill and starting an auction at a very low price can drive interest (more bidders) and lower ebay fees while preventing a coin from selling too cheaply.

Believe it or not, shills are used in non-ebay auctions often. Heritage has been suspected of this in numerous cases. Teletrade has their own electronic version. In the end you pay no more than your maximum price if you win. It's just that you don't get the deal you might have, had there been no shilling.

I avoid neyronix auctions because of this underhanded behavior. Sometimes, however, he has the coin I've been looking for and I'm reluctantly drawn in, knowing I'm not going to win at a great price. Bummer.

    Neyronix ok in my book

I have had several transactions with neyronix both within eBay and through his business
RLH Enterprises, Inc. He has a separate website www.rlhe.net with coins not listed on eBay as well as links to those which are on eBay.

Mr. Hughes actually has a high regard in the coin world and is an expert on Patterns and has written articles and books on the subject. He also has received reference credit in various books including Q. David Bowers A Guidebook of Morgan Siver Dollars.

I have not had any experience which were not professionally handled or left me dissatisfied an any way. I have spoken to Mr. Hughes over the phone on five times.

I have left positive feedback on eBay.

If you do not wish to bid because of the "shill" factor, check out the website.
