IMO...the coin is a nice 64. tempt to crack it,but then i don't know toady's grading standard compared to the early 90's when this coin was graded.
Just because it's in an old rattler doesn't mean it will upgrade. Many folks feel the grading standards were tougher back then, but even if that's true, consider this : Even back in the "tougher grading standards" days, any given coin in a holder was high-end for the grade, low-end, or somewhere in the middle. The vast majority of the old holders have been thoroughly picked over. Most that will upgrade have already been upgraded, leaving a body of coins which were mostly low-end for the grade by yesterday's standards. Grade the coin for yourself and decide - by today's standards, is this a strong 65 ? Most of those proof Barbers are a bit hazy and have hairlines visible to the naked eye. If yours doesn't, maybe it's worth a try. Let the coin do the talkin'... not the slab, old or new.
not this coin. as far as i can remember i bought this coin on the day it came back from PCGS. i really have nothing to lose b/c i know it'll come back at least a 64,but then i don't want to break my perfect upgrade record of 9 for 9.
so after 18 yrs i finally decided to crack this coin. guess the new grade? did PCGS upgraded or downgraded this coin? i will post the coin in its new holder within 48 hrs.
Im going to say pf 60. I think this is one i was following on the bay but i could be wrong. Obverse looks grainy like something may be going on.
In its old Rattler - it was a 64. I see you cracked it out to resubmit. That's very chancey, IMHO. I hope you get at least a PR 64 back. Good luck !!
