Isn't there something close to $1 Billion dollar coins in the federal reserve? Every day I go to the mints website to see if there are any direct ship dollar coins available. But EVERY DAY when I go there, not only aren't there any available, but the product availability date is getting pushed back more and more each day. If there is such a surplus of coins available why does the mint say there aren't any available and is pushing the dates back? I'm confused.
Well, if they go ahead and release them into the system, there'll be more inflation. Right now, there is little need for more coins out there, which is why some of the newer coins are hard to find, especially the 2010 and 2011 quarters
No matter what they do though there's gonna be inflation whether they like it or not. If they didn't want the coins being put into the system why have the program? I'm baffled.
This is just a guess, but it is possible that the Mint is filling the orders from bags as needed. Note that the coin wrappers are not the normal ones you see on coins offered at regular prices. At the same time, they don't want to open a $1K bag for a single $250 order, nor do they want their distributor to charge-back expenses for doing the work of wrapping coins for just one bag. It is cheaper for the distributor's employees to process 5, 10, 20 or more bags at one time. Chris
I see 2010 dimes all the time, they litter my rolls. 2010 Nickels are a little less common, but I just traded 6 rolls of P for 6 rolls of D with someone on here. I found 12 in a box of nickels a while back.
should I be hanging on to any 2010/2011 nickels/dimes I find? or just near perfect ones? I've only seen a couple of them as well
The fact that the Federal reserve has TONS of them in storage has nothing to do with the Mints Direct Ship program. As to why you can't get them right now, the mint is probably concentrating more on getting out items that represent more profit such as the mint sets proof sets, hockey pucks etc.
Wouldn't it have anything to do with what they have in stock though? P.S The dates got pushed back...again
