You got it! Funny thing is, two weeks after I took the 'Ike's out of the tank one of my fish had ten babies?

I actually have like 5 coins with the gunk on them. Those are just the 2 that I could get the best images of.

Are the others the same compoition and amount of "gunk" on them?

There is a little less on the others but it looks to be the same stuff. Thr coins all came from the same place. I talked to the woman earlier and she said she kept them in an album that had sticky pages so they wouldn't fall out?? I don't see why she would do that when coin holders are so cheap but people do strange things.

OK - try a soak overnight in pure acetone on a single coin, say that Ike. Then report back. If it works or shows signs of working I'll give you detailed instructions on how to finish the job.

Thanks a bunch I will do that as soon as I can get my hands on some acetone. I'll shop around in the next day or so for it.

Actually, you should ALWAYS follow the solvent polarity ladder. Soak in this order and move to the next step if the previous step doesn't work. 24 hours in each is sufficient.

    1) distilled water
    2) acetone
    3) xylene

Acetone is working wonders. Have had a coin soaking for less than 30 minutes and the green gunk is going away revealing a shiny pretty coin beneath.
