If you can find the boxes w/ COA's . They are not easily located.

Nope. Proof sets have been shown, over and over, to not hold their value well. If they're worth a lot more, my guess is that is only because of inflation.

I just read that the 1999 silver proof set dropped down to $135 greysheet bid.

Clay, Check out the Coin Shop, (www.coinshop.com). They specialize in Modern Proof issues, Shipped free in Airtite holders. They hail from Coeur d'Alene, ID. I completed my Silver Proof State Quarter collection through them. I paid an average $28-35 for those elusive 1999 Quarters last year. I am buying Franklin Proofs from them this year. Happy Collecting! :)

P.S. Just checked their website, they have a Silver 1999 New Jersey current bid @ $28.12, and a Silver 1999 Delaware current bid @ $31.13!! Best of Luck!! :)

The OP simply chooses to remove the coins from the " Proof Sets " . Not something I would do nor encourage anyone to follow suit. I know that when the time came for me to re-sell a part of my own U.S. Mint S Proof sets , being in their original OGP allowed me to get the going rate ( including any market premiums ) . Without the coins being in their OGP state, if one had to sell those coins individually, they are a bit more tougher to sell, to any knowledgable collector. Many folks pull this cracking the coins from their OGP, and even replacing them with less valuable issues . He states in another thread, he always does this, any effort by me or anyone to encourage against it, is simply not going to be taken seriously. So any further comments against this practice will simply be an effort in futility.

Woah here, am I confused here or did you just say that I stated that I open my mint cases and replace the coins with less valuable issues? Maybe I am misunderstanding your statement, but that is what it sounds like you are accusing me of. I keep the mint cases in the event I would ever want to put the original coins back in them. I also open the cases when I buy sets to look at the edges of the quarters to make sure nobody replaced them with clad coins, but I would never put less valuable clad coins in a silver mint case myself. Maybe that isn't what you meant, but the way you said it, it sounds like you are saying I replace coins in mint sets with less valuable ones. I don't and I certainly hope I am misunderstanding you and you are not accusing me of doing such a thing. If so I'd like you to point out the thread I stated that in because I have no recollection of it.

And yes, admittedly it is futile to tell me not to open mint sets. Maybe one day I will change my mind and not do it, maybe I'll regret doing it (even though if I do I still have all the cases to put ONLY THE ORIGINAL coins back in them) but for now, I have a way I like to view and store my coins and the mint sets I buy will continue to be opened.

EDIT: okay I think you meant that I always open the mint cases. And yes, I do. Having those two sentences back to back makes it sound like you are saying I aways replace mint sets with less valuable coins. My misunderstanding, but in the event that someones else reads it the same way I did, I just want to clarify I don't replace mint coins with less valuable ones.

No, I said many folks do , and than sell them as OGP on sites like EBAY. I never inferred you did or do that. When I said that you said you always do this, I was merely referring to you cracking open your mint sets, and nothing more than just that. But many folks have opened their proof sets and do replace them with coins of lesser value or quality and market them to unsuspecting buyers. . That has been an issue with quite a few sellers on EBAY.

Yes, that is what I meant. I collect silver proofs, so I was talking more about the price of silver increasing over time. My coins will always be atleast worth melt weather they are in the cases or not and the melt value of silver will probably continue to increase.

Yes, I realized that and apologize. You posted this before I made my edit. But to some it may read as if you were saying I do that. The first two sentences I quoted don't go well back to back. At first I thought you were saying that I stated I was one of the many folks you do that. After I read it a couple of times I realized "Oh, he meant I stated I open the coins, not that I replace them" If I read it that way maybe somebody else will to, so I wanted to clear up any confusion. Then again maybe I'm just having a brain fart kinda day and nobody else will read it that way. Either way sorry for accusing you of accusing me.
