I'm poor so all I bought was $10 in pennies and $10 in nickels. I've opened my first roll of pennies and found a couple I needed for my 1941-1974 book. Wish me luck. Searching though coins is one of my favorite parts of collecting so I am having a great time right now with my loupe and magnifying glass and red book by my side
I just started roll searching two weeks ago. My first roll was a roll of Halves, then a roll of quarters. When going through your Nickels tell us if you find anything interesting.
I'm so upset! All of my nickels are 2011 lol I'm going to save a few and return them and jump to a different bank for more. I asked for halves but they said they didn't carry them. Hope I can find somewhere that does.
Roll searching is great. You can't loose any money because you can always just cash them back in. You never know what you might find though. Good luck with the albums!
Stick with Lincolns, and come over to the dark side of error and variety collecting. Take a look around this website: http://www.conecaonline.org/
I started collecting coins on Christmas but started actively roll searching about a month or so ago. It is so much fun! I'm starting to like finding coins way more than buying them.
I have a list of errors and have been trying desperatly to find at least one error coin. No luck so far with that. I love my pennies, I have nearly an entire collection from 1909 to now. I'm missing some that I'm working on finding. I've been looking for nickels because my dad is convinced that nickel hoarding is a good investment lol. I figure if he wants me to save nickels I may as well try and get them all.
Nickels are worth close to 7 cents just in their metal content at this point. That is about $40 profit on every $100 face hoarded. Coinflation Link
Not really a problem since A: melt bans are always temporary and B: Coins sell at melt even whilst the actual act is banned. See all the Bulk Pre-1982 Copper Cent auctions that are already selling for way over face and have been for months if you wish further proof. $50 Face sold for $121.00
We all start someplace. Now re-roll the ones you don't want to keep and add a dollar or two when you turn them in to get a few more rolls of cents. Do that each time and it won't be long before you have a decent trading stake. And you are really just saving a little money each time, because you can always spend the coins if you had to. gary
