I see on the U.S. Mint site that bot the ATB and the Silver mint set say "This product is temporarily unavailable". Will more be available or is that it for the year? Thoughts?
How long does it take to update a price on their website? I mean, I understand the silver price is directly related to it. Seems they could update it daily in a few seconds.
From a business perspective it would be foolish not to just increase the price, but it would be very interesting for collectors if these never went back on sale! TC
It's just not that simple since this is the Federal Government which is controlled by rules and regulations. Just like the repricing of Gold and Platinum coins (which occurs once a week) Silver will have to be priced and re-priced based upon published Federal Standards. Especially if the price of silver continues to rise. Gold and Platinum Pricing Standards Ref: http://catalog.usmint.gov/wcsstore/ConsumerDirect/images/catalog/en_US/GoldCoinGrid.pdf
Don't delay your Silver Proof ATB set Purchase. There are some inexpensive sets (just above spot silver price by less than a twenty spot) on EBAY, so IMHO you should get your set now. If the Mint does stop sales the prices on EBAY will catapult. The set is pretty all by itself, and worth ten bucks a coin to me. Those holes will be harder to fill at 60 dollar silver. These are tough times for making decisions, especially with new 300 dollar silver ATB's for sale.Count yourself lucky if you feel like you can count yourself lucky.
I'm curious, could continued volatility in the price of silver affect the mintage of the 2011 silver proof coins? Assuming they've already submitted the new prices and they'll be back for sale soon, with the recent drop in silver they could end up being overpriced, which would lower demand. Then additional price adjustments would come depending on where the price of silver goes. So the coins would would end up off the market for additional periods of time. Is this a possibility, or would they just keep cranking out coins and stockpiling them until they sell?
The mint has now a statement on their homepage that states that it has temporarily suspended sales because of the increase in silver prices. They re-priced the 2010 silver proof set to $64.95/ea. but have also suspended sales for the same reason. They better change the price quickly since silver has dropped $8/ounze in the last couple of days! I wonder if they'll re-price lower when it gets to $30/ounze.
What will they do if the price of silver drops and people just simply cancel items not shipped or return new purchases for full credit. Could they offer an adjustment? Or would they take a beating on the returns?
Think they will ever set up the silver coin pricing like they have the gold coin price structure set up?
I suppose it's possible but with the literal BEATING that Silver is taking this week, they might as well just put the sets back on the market. It's down nearly $10 from what it was at on 4/28. (6 days ago)
Was Just at the Denver Mint, they have lots of silver product on hand stashed in the back room. Word is that they will be available shortly, but at a higher price. Hopefully they will take into account the recent drop in silver. They are supposed to call me when they receive word on how/when to sell them & I will pass it on as soon as they hang up the phone. Hal in Denver
In the good old USA you can have the slimmest of reasons to raise a price, there is no reason to lower a price.
They are back on the market at the original price today. I wonder if the mintage will be affected by the crazy rise and fall of silver.
Missed the call this morning, but Silver Proof Sets are available today over the counter at the Mint. Prices are to be the same as prior if I understand the message correctly..
