...from 1916: [even considering that $1 in 1916 is $20.50 today ( http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=1&year1=1916&year2=2011 ) these prices are still amazing] click on picture for larger version
Those are always fun to look at. "Yes, I'd like the 1907 double eagle with the roman numerals. I'm willing to pay you between $21-30 dollars for it." "A great deal for you my friend, why it's only worth $20, it says so right on the coin!"
Man that only goes to show how far those Double Eagles have come, I mean, $21-$30? I just spent $1,860 on one in MS-64.
The 1907 double eagle in the ad, for which our coin dealer in 1916 is offering up to $30, is the high relief version. Only around 12,000 of them minted. Most of them, even in circulated grades, sell for over well over $10,000 today.
NFC Coins has a 1907 High Relief in PCGS MS-67, and it is BEAUTIFUL. They are asking $189,000. http://www.nfccoins.com/item.aspx?pid=1907-HR&cid=96
