Baha, that's a crazy coin. I saw that you posted it on another thread but didn't read it. Very interesting and clean coin but I'm guessing that whatever's happening with the chin is going to limit the price. With my limited knowledge of proofs, and with judging proofs from photos, and knowing you're a bargain-hunter, I'll go $300.
Very pretty coin indeed. Also hard to come by nicely tone and with the ngc star designation. These have been falling in price lately so I've been happy to purchase on the downhill slope. This one was not cheap, but I'm happy with the $408 I gave for it. The chin has a piece of skoal on the slab and is not on the coin, figured most could tell that it was external, but sometimes hard to tell i guess. Oval_man is the winner !!
I'm going to have to pass; I don't have any more toners. Open floor. I would like to post new photos of a coin I posted a while back (#632) that was already guessed on. Here are the original auction images: Here's the reshoot from Todd:
It's really not a dark coin at all. I darkened the picture to help show the blues in the fields, which I simply cannot capture in a fully lighted picture for some reason, they are subtle blues. These pics give a better idea of the coins brightness, maybe even more bright than this. It's a common coin, but I like it enough to put it in the SDB, in which room is at a premium now.
You dont see toned Peace Dollars very often, that's nice! Here are my two best toned coins ... (I don't remember if I posted these in this thread previously or not) Purchased in April 2011 for $142.50 Purchased in March 2011 for $57.00
rzage or rlm, feel free to post. Think I paid around 197'ish and you both have that number surrounded.
Very interesting Peace; I definitely like the brighter moments of color in it. Missed my chance to guess.
Since we're waiting for someone to post a toner, if you don't mind, I'd like to raise a question I raised a few pages ago which was never addressed. The consensus is that this toner (from post #1680) is clearly AT. However, if you look at the obv. stars and letters, there is clearly "pull-away" (no tone) around some of them which I understood to be a tell-tale sign of NT. Isn't "pull-away" only supposed to happen over time as a coin sits in a bag? Would anyone care to comment on this? PS: seems to me that 1), if this coin is AT and 2), it exhibits pull-away, then pull-away cannot be considered evidence of NT.
If forced to choose between that coin being AT and the pull away toning being conclusive evidence of NT, I choose that the coin is AT. That said, I still think that pull away toning is a very strong indicator of a NT coin. Is it possible that someone dipped and retoned a Morgan that had pull away toning?
