Hey guys just needed some help on the value of this coin. I scored it at a gold/silver Pawn shop for silver spot.honestly id prob say it has vg details but is sore on the eyes. Could anyone help me grade and or set a galue for this morgan?i really cant explain the black line on obverse either.
Bag marks on chin and cheek completely distracting, some kind of residue looping from about 2 o'clock around the back of Liberty's head, and back to 3 o'clock, breast feathers completely worn, bag marks on the reverse fields, luster is lacking, I'd say F-VF, numismedia.com value is $300 - $650 respectively.
The mint mark has a right tilt to it and may be a VAM 2, which would add a premium to the value Images from VAMWorld.com: 1893CC
The marks on her jaw don't look like any bag marks I've ever seen on Morgans.......EF Details - Damaged. Chris
Without the scratch or damage, the EF value from numismedia.com is $1260, with it, that may decrease several hundred on value, especially with the damage. But it is a CC Morgan, at 677,000 minted that year, and common compared to the other Mints.
(1893 is the year my maternal grandmother was born.) At FUN 2008, I bought a damaged 1893-CC (intentional scratches) at the Scotsman Auction table. It would have graded about F12. They were asking $280 for it, but they accepted my offer of $225. Your specimen is in much better condition, but personally, I don't think it's worth more than $500 max because of the damage. Since you only paid spot for it, you did REAL good! Chris
Too bad about the obverse scratch. What a shame... Well I am going to say VF-Details on this one. Without the scratch and whatever the dark, round lines are on the obverse, it may be a VF35-XF40 coin. Either way, if you purchased it for the spot silver price, YOU GOT A FANTASTIC DEAL! -Brian
yeah i really did i almost went back and said did you really mean to sell this coin because i felt bad....but i figured he has really taken people for more money thanm that. so i decided to keep it
I think you're right. I just took a look at the plate photos of the "CC" mintmarks used for the Morgan, and it doesn't compare to any of them. Chris
I think it is a vam on the cc i weighed it and its rite on considering wear.but Ill have it checked that would stink.
thanks so much very helpful. Im happy i got it now im just worried its a fake from what others have said here
