I don't even really mind if it was cleaned, but I'm pretty sure at some point it was, just judging from the horizontal lines going across the high points on the coin.

This is going to be such a newbie question, but what kind of holders are those Lugia? I may have to get one for my coin, its current packaging is just kind of bulky for it.

10gary, I know exactly what you mean! I do the same thing with old coins! just to hold it and imagine what it's been through, and the people who have had it, and what they bought with it, the possibilities are just endless yet fascinating to just think about, lol! This is now the nicest old coin I own, I have a (1730's - 1750's?) British half penny, but it's so worn it's only identifiable by outlines really.

airtites. you can get them between 60c to a dollar online or at a coin shop. its kinda tough buying them for large cents because sometimes they wanna fit in a 27 and sometimes they wanna fit in a 28.

i just got this 1837 N8 R1. when i took it outta the flip i really had to cram it into a 27 and a 28 is probably too wide.

    Nice coin for $5.

I agree with Lugia, very little to no chance of it being slabbed.

Doesn't make it a bad coin, but it is what it is.

At jpscorner.com, you can get them with the black rings for 47 cents each if you order more than 50. I'd buy some other supplies though, because the shipping is a bit steep if you only get a few items.

I could be wrong, but after looking at your cent for a while I don't think it has been cleaned. If it were cleaned there wouldn't be all of that darkness and verdigris in the fields and it would be a lot brighter. At least that is what I understand it would look like after what I have read on the subject. Anyway, I think you made an excellent purchase for $5.71. And not matter what, I feel that your coin is very attractive.

I'd buy it any day of the week for $5.71

Oh Ikeigwin, your "head of 95" isn't. it is a head of 94, S-65. If PCGS says it is a head of 95, they are wrong again.

LOL. You're right, Condor. PCGS mislabled it. It is an S-65, head of 1794.

That's why I always say to NEVER trust an attribution by PCGS or NGC, they are frequently wrong. You MUST double check them yourself.

Unless it's a rare die variety confusing a head of 94 and head of 95 isn't going to hurt you too much, but I have seen a LOT of 1794 head of 93's that were actually heads of 94, a multi-thousand dollar error. And especially bad if NGC does it since their guarantee does NOT cover attributions. It used to be that PCGS's didn't either but it does now.

I always imagine, when it comes to large cent, little children. Imagine how large the coin to a 3 yr old at the candy store. Today's Lincoln @ 2 grams.

And the large cent actually bought stuff at the candy store! In fact he could get several items for his large cent.
