Guy's...many of you know that my son was born under the sign of Leo the Lion.. I never thought I would buy any foreign notes but these struck me in an unusual way... Had to have them for his upcoming Birthday...the Elephant is one of my favorite animals and one of the most intelligent large mammals on earth..it's for me..lol Hope you enjoy them as much as I do...and I must say, I know nothing about these notes, bought them on eye appeal only! RickieB
Those are awesome Rick! Dave sells notes on his site too... The descriptions list the subject matter, and a few have 'lions', if you are looking for more for your son.
Thanks Krispy...I'll have to check it out. I just saw this one and recall seeing the Discovery Channel Documentary on Silver Backs... I love the Golden Look of this note and they are pretty cheap too!
The colors are fantastic on African notes! I bet your son will get a big kick out of the animal scenery too, so different from out Presidential dollars.
Hah! I was just going to jump in and give Rick a good razzing about something, and cracked up reading this Those are nice Rick, and probably a nice relief from some of the pricing of your US note collection too! Dave
Beautiful notes Rick. The colors just pop off the notes and I like the lion as well. I can see why you picked these beauties up, they're really outstanding. Bruce
Hi RickieB, yes those notes are beautiful; eye-catching. And your elephant? He's got his trunk turned up! And that is a good thing, as elephants go! Lucy
By the way, I saw MMMM pop up on CT the other day. He's a collector of "animals on banknotes" and I'm sure could be a source for lists of what notes have lions or elephants on them... Dave
Here are some other notes with images of lions. Early Indian notes have the Column of Ashoka: http://www.panix.com/~clay/currency/Ashoka.html
From "The Story of the American Bank Note Company" here's a great vignette of a lion family. I'm pretty sure this has appeared on a banknote, but can't recall where I've seen it.
