Tell me what you think of this coin....

I notice the lettering looks a bit sloppy, like the way some individual letters are done compared to other Trajan Denarii...... look good to you guys? real I mean of course? I know it's hard to tell with pics and all.. its 3.31grams.

I always loved standards, and reverses with them.... so I fancy it. I also don't have a denarius of Trajan with this bust style.

It looks good to me Rex. Nothing that calls attention to either the style of the bust, the lettering, or the other devices.
The weigth is also correct for denarii of this era. A bit on the heavy side but not extraordinarily so.

That is a nice coin BTW, and I can see why you like it.

I also like legionary standards on coins (what could be more representative of Trajans legions than that), and have the same coin in my collection.

Yeah I like it alot, I am just not used to seeing this style of lettering on the Trajan Denarii I have seen, thanks for the comment.... I will see how things go.

Cool, got a pic of yours Eduard? I love the legionary standard ones, and would love to see your example....

NIce type, I say buy it. That type seems fairly common though, so depending on the price you can always wait.

My fav trajan type is the "Trajan's Column" reverse.

The colum reverse is great, but out of my price range..

Tell me fellas.... what would you pay for this denarius I have shown a photo of? like.... what would be a really good deal? and what would be the max you would be willing to pay?
So I can compare the price it is being sold for with your opinions.

A much nicer version is on vcoins for $211. I wouldnt go no more then a $100 for this one.

I'd go about the same as Mat. You can always find this again if you pass now, so make sure this is the example you'll be happy with at the price you're going to pay.

I think I am going to pass.... maybe if I had more money.... plus like you guys said it is a fairly common reverse, which I did not know, so I can find a nice one when the time is right.
Thanks for all your help though everyone!

Good decision. I'd honestly try to find this for under $60. It's possible if you can wait.

I saw the auction, factor in the $10 shipping and from another country that looks like it would take awhile, I would have passed.

    Happens to all of us...

That's how much I would pay. But I could see this coin being put up on vcoins for around $100.

Mat, can you link the auction? I'm just interested to see who's selling it.

Someone bought it for $59.99 good price in my opinion, I would have totally paid that. Yes like Mat said $10 shipping too. So, I will happily pay a little more for one with nicer detail on the standards in the future. I thought this was a rare issue, but it sounds like it is fairly common, so it won't be too hard to find one in the future. I am not too into Trajan denarii really either, but this one did have a beautiful portrait.

heres a link to the ended auction, being sold by 'sisica-museum' out of Slovenia.

I don't have it in the house right now, but next time I go to the SDB I will be sure to pick it up and post a picture. It is very much like yours, and I paid 60 Euros for it. So if you can but it for $ 100 or less it is a fair price. It is possibly a common type but it is nice one, so if you like it.........

The Trajan's column type is for sure (much) scarcer (and widely sought). I almost bought one a few months ago, but I am glad I followed my instinct, and did not buy it. I am convinced it was a fake. The counterfeiters know what people like. For the moment I have to make do with the dupondius and the sestertius of the type.

Especially on ebay. Just link it here before you bid so we can help you if you want. You could even PM me if your worried about teh bidding trolls, I have no interest in one of these, lol.

On ebay, you should be able to pick one up for $45-50 or less (not including shipping). I just won this a few days ago:

If I were to buy that on an online store, I would have to pay at least $50 (possible more). Just like your coin, it would be around $70. I am talking about decent examples too, lol, not rough and problem junk.
