First attempt at photography and posting.
    And grading for that matter.
    Is this a 15? 20? 25?

    My uneducated guess is 20.

Better than Good or Very Good. Those grades would be 6 or 8, respectively, on the Sheldon Scale. I can concur with you at VF20, I reckon. Maybe even VF25.

A Carson City piece! Nice. A $10 Liberty is nice enough, regardless, but a CC is doubly cool to have.

I messed up the terminology in my first post. LOL.
I have one older brother surviving so he got the double eagle.
    But I got this eagle, a 1898-S $5 Liberty, and a 1879 Baden (German) 10 Mark gold.
It was tough dividing things up and paying our two sisters while we were all together for a few days.

Love it. I am at VF25 or maybe a wee bit better.

Edit…. since you are in the what’s it worth section, I looked up the Greysheet and they show it at $2750.00 and rising.

    Thanks for your input.
I meant to say fine or very fine in the title.

I was going there, but had to have a condition. Thanks much for the reply.

From a details point of view I would'nt disagree with VF20-25. The real details are in the condition of the surfaces. Maybe add a little more light to the coin so we can tell if the coin has any evidence of being harshly cleaned etc.

New to this. Let me know if all the direct sunlight is too much.

I'm torn between F-15 and VF-20; however, because of gradeflation, would probably get at least VF-20 from either PCGS or NGC.

For future ref. There is a small amount of time to change the Title. Click on thread tools at the top of the page.

Do they take mintage into account (even if they don't say so...)?
    Or the total estimated surviving?

Either way, you have a coin that any of us would be more than proud to have in our collections. I been collecting gold coins since the 1990’s and don’t have a Carson City piece…. Or Charlotte….. Or Dalhonega……

I know what I have came out of my grandparents basement in South Dakota in the 1980s. My parents just stored everything in a safe in San Antonio. The grandparents were not wealthy. I don't know if they inherited or not.
