I've gotten 2011 U.S. cents here in Canada. I've only gotten 2011 Canadian quarters, no other denominations, yet.
I've found 3 the last two days. Still no '11 pennies which is what I want to see. No '11 quarters or nickels either.
I haven't been following too closely, but does this mean you win your own contest? Wasn't there a contest in Coin Show Radio for the first who finds the new coins in circ?
There is kind of... We have a page on our website (www.coinshowradio.com) to list who the first people are to report finding each coin in circulation. I thought that it'd be a great way for people to interact and get involved. We've only gotten a few so far, so there's lots of claims left to stake. Yes, I am the first I know of to find a P mint dime, but I won't report it. I have gotten a claim for the first 2011 Canadian Quarter among the claims, and we're going to post it on the page as well!
i got a bunch of dimes and nickels a few weeks back at Costco. been getting plenty of pennies also. the dimes i got are very high grade. the nickels not so much but they do have FS
I used to think it was really stupid to buy rolls of modern coins (2009, 2010, 2011) on eBay...until I started discussing it with some friends. Consider the following scenario... What do you think a scenario like that would have on the hobby!?
how about a much more likely scenario: Coins trickle into circulation channels and are never found by anyone in large numbers. The overwhelming majority of these coins actually circulate making nice, pristine specimens very difficult to come by. People start to pay a premium for a coin due to low supply. That's about the best case you can hope for. And it's still unlikely. At some point the MILLIONS of these coins that the government minted will surface and any premium that people have paid up to that point will have been for naught. The 2009 dimes and nickels (all the rest already circulate) will be the 1950-D Jefferson Nickels of the 21st century. These recent dates may not be easy to find in prostine unc condition, but there are so many millions of them that they will never be rare. The premiums will be unjustified in the end. But hey, I think that the 5 oz silver hockey pucks are a bad buy as well and look how popular they have become.
Well since you asked... Firstly, I think this scenario happens to be off topic for this thread and secondly, that perhaps you've been writing/reading/participating in too many of the political discussions that have turned the 'bullion investing' threads into a snooze fest of distorted and slanted political chatter on CT, which seems to be seeping into all the other sections of this forum little by little. Mint wants suggestions, or does it? by Dave Harper The Buzz blog [3/9/2011] This piece addresses part of the unlikely reality of and inaccurate aspects of your scenario as you posed it, particularly in the parenthetical part where it reminds us that "there is an express prohibition in the request saying that the Mint “is not soliciting suggestions or recommendations on specific metallic coinage materials.”, and the article focuses on the power of the vending machine industry that your scenario completely leaves out. But anyway, to stay on topic, have you found any 2011s in circulation yet?
I agree that this is a more likely scenario and that some day droves of these things will come flooding out of the Fed as they always do. However, you can't beat the current deal buying the Pucks below melt, so I disagree with all the negative sentiment that has surrounded them.
Nice coin! I'm still waiting for one. I just started getting 2010 dimes this year so we'll see how long the 2011s take.
2011 dimes are abundant the mint so far from jan-march has minted over 149 million-D 126million-P 2010 dimes were minted in a high number ovr 550 million each for P and D NOW 2009 dimes are the ones that are not found as often 49 million-D and 96 million-P along with the 2009 nickel 39 million-p is a nickel to look for If you are not finding the 2011-2010 in circulation with a billion 2010's ( combined P and D) and already close to 300million ( p and d combined ) 2011 dimes in circulation just wait a few more months nothing rare about the 2010 or 2011 dimes
I never said the 2009 nickels at 39mill were " rare" BUT if someone is looking at pocket change collecting coins the 2009 nickel at 39 mill is the lowest minted nickel in circulation in the last 60 yrs.
