I found two gold plated bicentennial Kennedy half dollars in a roll of silver halves the other day. they are not silver as far as i know of. I know the US mint did not make any but I heard that there was a reason behind this somewhere... anyways what is the value besides 50 cents
Nothing. They are worth 50 cents. They were gold-plated to sell (at inflated prices) to people who don't know any better.
Probably an HSN and others like it gimmick coin to get people to collect them. You know " you'll be able to show all your friends these one of kind half dollars which were made in such limited quantity that they are very rare".
Get an Airtite holder for it and carry it in your pocket. Many people will rarely see a Half Dollar today, and obviously since they aren't US mint issue, rarely or ever see a gold plated one. Could be a conversation starter for those unfamiliar with coins, as long as you explain it's merely a collecting gimmick.
