This is great you probably got a MS-65 on your hands. For an 1881-S its very nice.

    Richie,

I have only been a member of this forum for a little over a month, but that was the best post I have seen yet. Well thought out, beautifully explained, and a great application of numismatic knowledge. Congrats!

It's hard to believe that the 1st coin, with those noticeable bag marks, earned a grade of MS-68. I have a 1996 SAE that PCGS slabbed as MS-68 and it doesn't have any noticeable contact marks.

I appreciate the praise Paul, but I must admit I'm still learning...and I have a long ways to go. ;)

Somewhere on these boards are pictures of my PCGS 67's, all 3 are 1880/81-S and look very similar to the NGC 68 Paul posted originally, and I can see a 67 easily.

Not one of my 67's are near as clean as coin 2 in the pictures, but the lighting seems to hide a few hits on the cheek. I said SEEMS.

    AJ,

What grade would you give this coin? I am interested in your opinion.

cant tell on coin 2, the light blocks half the cheek, but I know it's a nice one, I'll guess a 67 as well

Paul's vacation ended 2 weeks ago. And he has visited the forum more than once in that time. He apparently has chosen not to post however.
