Quarters were already heavily picked over by the 1970's. I seem to remember someone much earlier in the thread saying that you could expect maybe one silver in every 10,000 quarters.

Box of cents, another huge boring box...

    '35
    '40
    '44
    '46
    '56 x2
    '57-D x3
    '58-D

8 Canadians... Yeah, More Canadians than wheats, ugh.

Several nice BU's, already wrapped 'em for the drive home, but there was a '59, '61, '68-S, Gem '71-D, and a gem '05.

You thought that was a boring box. Just did a box with 6 wheats, and just one George VI Canadian. Got a 1916 D, though, which was nice. Probably AG tho.
Also, did a box of nickels - one buffalo (super worn, no date) and no war nickels.

What is with one of my halfs that is a yellowish gold color on both sides...is that bad metal? or exposed to the elements?

I got $3.50 in loose halves the other day and got 1 40%. That may be the way to go haha.

Could be toned that color, or could have been plated and then circulated. I have an Ike that's the same way.

Dimes; half dollars neglected little brother. Hammer 'em until your average drops to less than 1 per $100 searched.

Wow. That is phenomenal! I'd keep hitting them too if I could get that many. Keep it up! and let us know how you fair.

I got a box after work and found the following:

    5 40%ers
    1 1964 :)
    1 1953 Frankie :D

So far I have opened (5) boxes of dimes and only hit (2) Silvers. I have been opening Brinks(clear wraps) which make it much easier to go through. I can do a box in 15 Minutes. I also did a bag which netted me (4) Silver dimes, but it took 2 hours.

Allow me to add to that, there's 50 rolls in every box denomination I can get around here.

    Cents; $25
    Nickels; $100
    Dimes; $250
    Quarters; $500
    Halves; $500

I noticed you guys are talking about quarters not being worth searching, as there is usually 1 silver per $1,000 searched. Well, I have found 4 in far less than $1k searched. I only get quarters when I do laundry, or when I happen to open a fresh roll at work. I have been coin hunting for less than 1 year and I would venture a guess of maybe $400 in quarters searched. Now, I could be very, very lucky with quarters, or it could just be that maybe there are more out there than what we think. I did see the one silver quarter in a teller tray, so I guess that makes 3 from circ.

Aaaanyways, I guess what I am saying is that some of you guys are going through 3 or 4 $500 boxes of halves, which makes it out to be 0/$2k. Maybe quarters aren't such a bad idea? Then again, I am a n00b.

I think a good thing with halves, is that there's NIFC coins that you can find. And proofs.
Other than BUs and such, the only quarters to look for are pre-1964. No NIFCs or other stuff.

No doubt! I did four boxes recently and only found 1 40%er and $2.25 in halves is much easier to dump than 2k :D

I've gone through several thousand in quarters, and I think I'll be staying away... that's all you.

Man Bob, what is up with all the Ben's you've been finding lately!! I even named my son Ben in hopes I would appease the silver gods and bring a couple of Ben's my way!

Fish968, If your pulling numbers like that on dimes hammer them until they go dry.
