What is your favorite Coin Art? One of the things that I admire about coins is the art and history. Coin art is unique to me because of the design and process in which the design is implemented. Coin art and the coins legacy make a coin stand out. Walking Liberty and St. Gaudens are my two favorite coin arts. I believe that the Buffalo Nickel may be in the top ten. But when I go threw the many colonel half cents and commemoratives it is hard to choose the top ten. As a collector you have to admire all coin art. But can you choose one coin that is your most favorite design? I know a lot of people will collect a certain coin over others, because of the values and of course we all have our nickels and pennies. I open this post to see if there are any designs that will get the most attention. So if you would like to play along post your favorite coin design. Thanks New Member Big Ed.
The reverse of the walking liberty half is dreadful, in my opinion. Probably the worst eagle on an American coin. The walking liberty design is much better on an American Silver Eagle bullion coin. It's hard to say which designs I like best. Maybe Indian head cents. I like all the reverses with wreaths on them.
Lon Chaney I agree with you. Now I have to cut the coin in half because the obverse is one of my favorites. The reverse is what you have stated. So maybe a question of favorite obverse and reverse would be more better. Thanks Big Ed
Yes, the Walking Liberty Half & St G $20 are beautiful IMO. I've always liked the $10 Indian Gold design (both obvers & reverse). I only own one MS example but have no photograph to post right now. Those are my favorite US coin designs. There are some really awesome French & Italian coins also. Its tough to pick only one.
The 1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel was probably the best since it incorporated sculpted fields which made the entire piece a work of art. Smooth flat fields on the other hand are simply dead, unused space.
The Saint Gaudens design will always be my favorite. Just a beautiful coin, regardless how common the year is, you still have a masterpiece.
Hello mas4492, The standing liberty design is nice & so is your Great Britain Trade dollar avatar. It is impossible for me to say which one of all these coins posted is my favorite.
This is by far my favorite design, in fact I just picked up his little brother today at the Baltimore coin show, a 20 Euro gold coin if the same design. I'll post photos tomorrow, my back is KILLNG me from sufing the dealers. Mark in NJ
LOL!, the horse runs a very close second for sure. Apparently the Irish bank will be issuing a series of these, Wolfhound, and Salmon. I will have to get those! Here is the Horse and Foal if someone haven't seen it
Hello everyone Just thought I would add a new coin this week. I love a lot of halfpenny art. Thanks Big Ed
+1, see 2005 Kansas State Quarter, nice Bison then..... space! Steve P.S. I think the Walking Liberty Half dollar Eagle beats the Washington Quarter (1932-1998) reverse, and let us not forget the Franklin Half Dollar Eagle!!
Here's one of my favorites, the 1913 3 Mark piece "Der König rief...", issued to commemorate the centenary of King Friedrich Wilhelm III's appeal "An mein Volk" to his people to furnish troops to fight Napoleon. The legends translate as "The King called and everyone came" and "With God for King and Fatherland". Unfortunately the timing was both predictive and catastrophic, which is why I call it "Welcome to the 1st World War". But it's still a really dramatic design, and I think a triumph of the celator's art.
