Melting Silver Coins - The Sin of Coin Collecting?

What I'm curious about is what dental school is teaching its students to make fake gold coins.

I charge $25-30 plus the cost of the coin for most rings. Silver dollar coin rings are $45 plus the cost of the
coin. You can do it yourself but it will look like it.... I have 30 years of experience and the tools. I do a lot of work for people who send me the coin they want turned into a ring. See my website for some ideas.

Those are extremely impressive Judd. can I ask a question? Are most of these coins defective coins when they come to you? It makes me a little sad if the large cent and other collectible coins weren't defective before jewelry was made from them.

Really cool though, I have a 1825 quarter I bet would look good as a ring.

There is no simple answer to your question. I use all types of coins and grades. The only time I use damaged coins is when the damage will be removed in the coin making process. What makes me sad is to see coins stashed away never to see the light of day. The coins I make into rings are on display for all to see and enjoy.

 

I understand, but never again as a coin. I was just asking. So which part of the coin can be damaged and still be made into a ring? What about a hole, could you just fill if there is a hole that would show?
