LOL, yea I've got to try to do the same. I had to look at everything so I completely forgot what I was looking for. I'm NOT going to worry about a 5 or 10 dollar difference in price. That was another thing I think I did wrong. I spent more time looking and drooling. If they have what I want, I"ll try to deal a little but thats it.
Friday at 11:30 at my table works for me! I can't wait to meet/see all you fellow CoinTalkers! And don't forget, Todd is setting up at my table too, so be sure to bring any coins you may want to be photographed - he's very very good, very quick, and very reasonable!
I'll attend but don't know when I'll get there. Somebody asked about foreign coins - I've bought foreign coins, Libertads & Britannias from the Talisman booth,http://www.talismancoins.com/servlet/StoreFront, in the foreign coin section. They have a large selection of foreign coins at what I believe a reasonable prices. (Don't know if they're going to be there this year.) After making a walk through of the entire show, then going back purchasing what I want I usually spend some hours browsing some of the foreign currency booths. Through out the show are vendors selling art medals. If I'm still around i'll go Sunday morning and have picked up some bargains from some of the few dealers still there. The Whitman Baltimore shows are my favorites as I don't travel out of the mid Atlantic region to attend shows. Some great food can be found in Baltimore I really don't understand how the dealers make profits after spending money on transportation, hotels, meals, entry fees (which are quite high), etc. But I see a lot of the same ones year after year.
That would be fun...I am sure I can talk to my wife and having a little gettaway next weekend and introduce myself to other CT and go back to where i was last stationed! Ah shoot, I just remembered I have a color guard to do at Progessive Field for the Indians that day...but maybe I can go down Saturday
1066merlin, there are usually so many foreign dealers there you can do some serious comparison shopping. Good luck.
I look forward to the show, always seems to be a good one. As Charmy said I will at table 1751 with her.
The Baltimore show just got an early start for me. MFD e-mailed my last night that he has two IHC's on hold for me. So my first stop will be at his table. I need a Draped Bust/Heraldic Eagle Reverse for my type set so I'll be searching for one. Since it's for a type set the inexpensive dates are what I want so that means 1805 or 1807. I need some early half cents to complete that set and I know a couple EAC dealers that I'll visit. Plus there's some odds and ends I need. I looked at my 1944-P Jefferson and it DEFINITELY needs to be replaced. Stuff like that. C'mon Friday!!!
Neat part is that I'm retired. So my week looks like this: Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Sunday. [Repeat]
The following information is based on my experiences in previous years attending the show. I'm assuming nothing has changed. (I hope others will update) Parking Saturday & Sunday parking is available at the parking lot just west of the Days Inn on Lombard St for $10.00 a day on Saturday & Sunday. (about a block 1/2 NW of the convention center) I think it's around $20.00 day Mon - Fri. It's an automated lot with no attendant. Instructions are on signs in the lot. see link for more lots. http://www.bccenter.org/index.php?target=60 parking on Friday 3/31/11 several parking lots are near the convention center but they aren't cheap, >$20.00/day. parking meters are $2.00 per hour. I don't believe free parking is available near the convention center. Eats - catered food is passable in the convention center. Many sandwich shops and restaurants are near the CC. Directly across the street from the east entrance of the CC is a food court w/ Burger King and a few other eateries. If you have extra time consider walking two blocks east to Harbor Place - lots of restaurants and the old ship "Constellation." http://www.harborplace.com http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constellation_(1854) dwhiz, if you're not familiar with baltimore after leaving the station turn left walk to St Paul street and catch bus down town.(ask the driver if he goes to the convention center). I think it might cost about $1.50. Cab is around >$6.00. Light rail from station involves a transfer. Members of the Baltimore Coin Club staff the ticket booth and perform other functions at the show. I believe their main source of income is from selling raffle tickets for gold coins at the Whitman Shows. Tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00. I always buy 6 tickets for$5.00. It's for a good cause and just might win a gold coin! Days Inn Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel 100 Hopkins Place Pratt Street & Lombard Street Baltimore, MD 21201 US Phone: 410-576-1000 Actually, I've discovered lots of stuff I like in Baltimore.
I'd love to go , but Baltimore is too far for a day trip. Maybe I'll make it to Philly. Enjoy everyone!
