Thanks mat. I've got to say, you have some of the nicest ancients on this forum. I'm always impressed with the variety and quality of coin you post. They're just plain cool.
Another Dan... this one the toughest of the group. Rarity r.4. Condition census #2, meaning second best anywhere of this variety.
Very nice large cent. Here are 2 of my latest scores. 100 Yen silver japan. 1957 & 1959.... Year 32 & 34 of the Showa (Hirohito)
Doggone it Rick, I know people like ya but I'm just so danged jealous right now....... Beautiful piece.
Much to be proud of ! One of us copperheads will attribute it for you. It's possible you're in for a pleasant surprise.
Here's the fourth coin of eight in the Dan Holmes parade. This one is 1848 N-10 r.3, condition census #8. Like so many of Dan's coins, this one has an strong provenance, including March Wells and Robinson Brown.
I have a question for the geniuses at PCGS... Why did you call this a 63 ? What is it you don't like ? Where are the rim bumps, nicks, and surface bangs ? Most of these Late Dates have soft, mushy denticles due to die warping and crumbling... but not this one. It's a strong, balanced strike from an early die state. Original mint luster. Were ya hung over from rotgut tequila ? Is that it ? No rant... just askin'.
Picked up a Maine and Booker T Washington to add to the early commem collection. Nothing too exciting but I do like the appeal of the Maine. Also a Mary Todd and Buchanan First Spouse. Tried to take a picture but I am no good so here is a pic from the mint. Also I snagged 100 different modern silver commems of all various dates. I have many duplicates if anyone is interested in a trade PM me.
Here come the last four Dan Holmes Late Date large cents, all in the 1850s. The first one is 1850 N-19 r.2, condition census #5. The others are ID'd in the respective pics.
some nice looking commems claygump. I got this one at the Sacramento ANA show a couple of weeks ago. Looks at least MS65 to me, but there's no way I'd ever crack this one out or get it regraded, just too cool in the old doily style holder. Might look cool with a CAC gold sticker on it someday
