Most coins struck featuring celebrities are Non Circulating Legal Tender (NCLT), Non Circulating Non Legal Tender (NCNLT), commemoratives minted in sets or as proof singles for coin collectors, souvenir seekers, or for bullion investors. These coins usually are struck by non government mints. This post is for those of you who might like to know who some of these Celebrities on Coins feature. This posting deals with coins featuring Marilyn Monroe. There are two gold coins authorized by Gilbrator that commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Cinema and bear the dates 1895 and 1995. One, a gold 1/10 Crown weighs in at 0.1000 ounce AGW The other is a gold 1/5 Crown weighing 0.2000 ounce AGW. Both coins feature Elizabeth II on their obverses and Marilyn Monroe on their reverses. The gold 1/10th Crown (20,000 proofs) is listed in Krause as KM# 401 and measures 17.95mm. The gold 1/5th Crown (5000 proofs) is listed in Krause as KM# 402 and measures 22mm. The 1/5th Crown was also produced in platinum (1,000 proofs) weighing in at 0.1990 ounce APW (KM# 402a). Since all three coins have the same devices, except for the denomination, I present this photo (courtesy of Lynn Coins) of the 1/10 Crown: GIBRALTAR 1995 GOLD 1/10TH CROWN - MARILYN MONROE In 1995 the Marshall Islands authorized a $5 Copper-nickle coin featuring Marilyn Monroe: [World Coin Gallery photo] MARSHALL ISLANDS 1995 COPPER-NICKLE $5 - MARILYN MONROE 2006 was the year Marilyn Monroe would have been 80 years old if she would have lived. Was searching for Elizabeth Taylor coins the other day and came up with this. A set "from" the Cook Islands issued in 2010 and 2011 which also includes a Marilyn Monroe piece: http://www.tresordupatrimoine.fr/img/p/1360652-10253-large.jpg Christian
