As an update to this thread. I received the coin today. It is exactly as described! The contrast is not only cameo, but I think it has a chance at Ultra Cameo. So much so that I am going to submit this coin to NGC and we'll see what they have to say on the subject. I am very pleased and I would buy from Dave again in a heartbeat! I wish that everybody that sold stuff on eBay was more like him.
well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. It went off to NGC this morning. While we're at it, I'd like to hear Duke and Raider and bahabully, etc. grade the coin from the eBay pics and we'll see what NGC says on this in 3 weeks or so.
If that doesnt come back as cameo, I would be shocked. Unless, of course, the images are wayyy off. I have purchased many coins from Dave, and I have no complaints.
It is kind of astonishing to me that he has "relisted" the item. That means that he has more than 1 of these. I wonder how many he has? This is not your average run of the mill coin.
From the pics, I think it will get the cameo designation, but not UCAM. Imo, the reverse isn't frosty enough for a UCAM. As for the grade, it's real hard to tell what's on the coin and what isn't. Looks like there's a light hazy area in the fields right by Jefferson's mouth, and a light hit under the T and C in Monticello. Do you remember what hits were on the coin? If my interpretation of the pics is right, I'd say 67CAM.
Maybe he bought a sealed box of sets from the mint and is cherrypicking the prime coins and selling them?
Well, with the mint boxes, if you find 1 cameo or dcam, you're highly likely to find others with them. So it's easily feasible to consider that he bought a box, opened it up, and found 5-15 nickels with cameo surfaces.
