ordered a box from two different branches - I pick one up this friday and the other next tues - I figure if I can do 2 boxes a week that should help. Talked with a co-worker who is at the vault branch (STL fed) and he said they have 'boxes and boxes of halves covered in dust' - I can't wait

At another bank, I scored seven '64 Kennedys (including my first '64-D) and a 1967.

Nah, it's in the center of a town, close to an area where the older folks usually live. I can only assume that they're cashing in their hoards.

I've actually hit up a liqueur store looking for halves before, no such luck at that time :)

Something that is good for collectors seems to me to be bad for others. I have been finding a lot of BU cents dating all the way back to the early 60's. BU as in they look BU at least but have been obviously handled to some degree. I'm just praying that people are not having to dump their collections because of our overall economic situation these days or that someone is not stealing collections and dumping them. Never saw this before the last couple of years.

I've been pulling and keeping them all... My thoughts on it is that since roll collecting isn't popular any more, dealers offer little to no premium for unopened rolls of memorial cents. So when a family member who was a collector dies, the family goes to sell the coins to the dealer, the dealer wants nothing to do with the rolls at anything over face, so the family members keep 'em. Sooner or later, they get tired of having them around and cash 'em in.

Yes, I've found that to be true also. My girlfriends dad passed away recently. I knew what he had and offered to buy his collection but they jumped the gun and sold all the " good stuff" to someone else, maybe a dealer and they left everything else behind. This included some silver halfs, dimes and quarters but also a lot of minor collections of Lincoln Cents, Jefferson Nickels, and such. Her mom was shocked at what I offered and now has regretted what she has done. Of course I gave her more than a dealer but also made sure I was not going to go overboard too.Mom was treated fairly and I have made a small profit. Also came across many minor errors I had not anticipated and a nicer than I thought Buffalo nickel, 1914d that is worth having TPG'd.

Had a pretty cool find today. I got roughly 100 CWRs from different banks today. The first batch I opened had the following!

In case the image doesn't show up well

    1896 Barber
    1905 Barber
    2 1918 Walkers
    1920 Walker
    3 Franklins
    4 40%ers

One bank ordered me $2000.00 in halves. I picked them up today figuring I'd see (4)boxes. Instead, she gets two $1000.00 bags from the fed.

Both bags were SKUNKS. That's $3350.00 in halves this week and no silver. I am going on a roadtrip tomorrow to hopefully make up for this crappy streak.

Barbers are a heck of a find... I've found four Barber-Era coins in all my searches... 2 IHC and 2 V-Nicks. I'd love to find a Barber dime, quarter or half.

BTW, JJD, switch it up and try dimes... you gotta change (pun intended) it up once in a while.

Funny thing for me is I started a collection of Franklin half dollars in pcgs holders before I started roll searching. I have found an 1892 Barber half dollar and several Walking Liberty half dollars along with some 1964s but have never found a Franklin half dollar :-/

I work nights, but am doing this as a part-time job during the day. It isn't worth it for me to do dimes. Pennies and Halves are where I am making the most money. I sell about 250 lbs. of copper a week.
