Your pics are a little too fuzzy to tell exactly which doubled die it is. It looks like it might be #2 which is the second best one of the '72's and would be a very nice find. Go here and you can match it up. http://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php Let us know what you find out!:thumb:
I think that it is a #3, its not a #2, Im having trouble finding the die gouge marks though. This coin has doubling on IGWT, date, jacket, and Liberty??? Any ideas
Looks like #3 to me as well. What are you using to look for the markers? You'll need a good loupe and a close, incandescent light source. Also, those gouges are listed for the mid-die state. For a more complete list of die states and markers see the Coneca website here and look at DDO-003: http://varietyvista.com/Variety%20Master%20Listings/lincoln%20doubled%20dies%201970-1979.htm#_1972
Thank you so much you have been a huge help! Yeah I use a 16x loupe, and I found the gouges. This is a #3
I found it in a roll that I got from the bank. This makes my second one that I have found recently like that. My first 1972 DDo was a #1.
Keep going to the bank then. Oftentimes you can find more if you're lucky enough to live in an area that received shipments from the mint that came from the same die pairs. Especially if you live in a small town.
I do live in a very small town and I will keep going to the bank and getting rolls. I usually ask for the coins that they roll at the bank and I will get usually $50.00 worth.
I'll tell you why I say that. I often search original rolls and bags. Out of these rolls and bags I will find coins minted by only a handful of die pairs. If mint bags were shipped to banks in your town at the time the mint was using the doubled die, then there are probably more of them around. When I search bank rolls from the small town I'm from, I've found repeats of the same variety on more than one occasion.
Okay, I will do that! Hopefully I can find more. Thanks for all the info. What do u think this 1972 #3 would be worth?
