    Box of halves... 4 40%'s and 1 90%. Also found 10 nifc's, most were 2008.

ERRR... Went to a bank today and got $10 of loose halves, nothing. Then I went to another bank that I thought had a coin counter, which they didn't. I ended up taking about a $7 through coinstar. Went back to the bank and asked them if I could get some change. They asked me if I had an account with them and I said no, and they said that they were going to have to save all of their change for their customers only. So, today I took a $7 for nothing. Oh, and this is the same bank that was going to let me buy boxes of change a few months ago.

UPDATE! I knew this was coming... all these silver-junkies have ruined this area (one teller told me of a guy who bought a box of halves, searched 'em in the lobby, and walked RIGHT back up to teller and dumped) Anyway, most of the banks now will not order boxes anymore. Heck, I wanted to get the kids a few rolls of dimes and could only get TWO. I'll need to get accounts out of town now I guess, if I want to continue...

If the banks make it that easy to search halves by allowing people to immediately cash the coins back in, you are in trouble.

Yeah no sense even exchanging any money other than what you keep!

    Man I'm SOL!!!

I searched 4 boxes last week of halves and found one '69..

So Saturday I decided to take a new approach and hit 27 banks in my area..

About 60 bucks in loose change and then one teller said, we have rolls if you want them. So I got $330 in rolls and when I got to the truck opened it up to look at them.. ALL of them were Brinks wrapped and had been cut with a razor!!! So this makes 3 weeks, 12 boxes, tons of banks of lose change and all I can show is a '69..

This is getting tough!! I have 14 boxes coming this next week. 10 from out of state and 4 from normal pull.

    UGH!!

The thing that makes me irritated is that it took me 1.5 hours to dump 3200 in halves last week. The tellers weren't happy changing the machine 3 times. They're really gonna be ****ed when I show up with 7k in loose halves next week.

Yeah I cant imagin 7K in halves, They run and hide each week when I bring in $300 in nickels. They have to change 1 bag each time I am there. How many bags do they go through on $3200 in halves?

No wonder tellers and banks don't want to deal with you guys!!

I absolutely love this hobby and would help almost anyone, but if I worked at a bank, I would tell every one of you ordering and returning thousands of halves that we were going to stop. Any decent manager would do the same. You're making their jobs miserable.

Yeah, I'd have to guess that mass box-ordering and dumping is starting to cost the banks enough time and money to show up on management radar. I suspect the days of free and easy box searching may be nearing an end.

I just don't think people realize the cost the banks incur when they "take" thousands of a coin in which the public no longer uses. And, I know this will bring the heat, many of these customers don't carry enough balance in their account to offset the loses (bank making money on said customers balance)

I always take rolls along with cash when bank shopping. They will generally trade rolls with you if they won't sell coins outright. Then I never waste a trip

That's crazy Incarnate, you should probably consider trying to dump that 7K spread out to different banks or branches. That is if you want to be able to keep dumping there in the future.

That is actually pretty ridiculous, no wonder most banks don't want to order halves for people. I'm not necessarily taking a shot at you Incarnate, but the more people are dumping like that (large amounts at one time) or like a previous poster said about a guy opening them in the lobby and then returning them to the bank, the harder it will be for most of us to keep on searching. As more and more banks will not allow it altogether. Just saying that's all.

Most I've ever dumped at one time was $2k. $7k is excessive, you should probably cut back a little bit if you can't spread your dumps around.

Greed will be the downfall of roll searching.

"Greed will be the downfall of roll searching." Couldn't agree more... I'll order two boxes every 5-6 months and my bank has been totally fine with it... Last time though I could tell they were like, "Why do you need these now??" --- told them it was for a poker game.... Point being just as previous poster stated, "Their RADAR is ON" ;(

Since when should we have pity on banks. They make enough money to cover coin ordering and then some. They look down
on us coin collectors and searchers like we're dirt. Yet they expect us to submit to they're rules and regs. and open accounts just so we can order everyday circulated coins. Tell me, who keeps who in bussiness? By opening a $300 dollar account they will allow us the priviledge of ordering coins, HMMmmph, thats gall. I went to Bank of America, Chase, and Citizens Bank which I have an account with. All want me to open an account and my Citizens Bank won't even order halves and quarters. In a pig's eye.
Says there's no demand. Think I'll switch to dimes and see what they say.
I remember when banks had a seperate window for collectors. Same with Post Offices. I have some 60 yr. old plate block specials and good memories getting them and being treated like a respectable kid back then. Nowadays, when do you ever see 10 to 14 yr. olds at either place. Those were the really good ole days.------------zeke
