Let me start by saying I in NO WAY condone cleaning or dipping of coins. I picked this 1000 Kronur up yesterday at a coin show. It was in a 2x2 flip, when I was looking at it thru the flip it appeared to be slightly toned. I had no problem purchasing a toned coin thinking it nothing more than a little NT. Anyway, I got the coin home and took it out of the 2x2 flip to put it directly into an airtite. What I thought was toning was some kind of "powdery" substance. I went into panic mode, I wanted to wipe the powder off but made myself stop, and put it down. Here is the photo, notice the upper left at 11 o'clock.
Thankfully a fellow CT'er Gave me the info on how to remove the powder from the coin. I'm so very happy with the coin now! One question I do have is I thought 2x2's were safe to store coins in. What caused this to happen in the first place? THANKS!!!!!!
Wonderful outcome, The original plastic that these came in from the royal in mint 1974 had some contents in the plastic that leaves a ghostly haze on the coin same as yours had. I see this all the time when buying these sets. If you 2by2 is PVC free your safe to keep it there.
Yes I did, I'm thrilled with the outcome. Now I need to find this coins brother or maybe a complete set LOL! Thanks Ripley!
How did you remove the haze on this coin.....I tryed acetone once and it really didn't work All that well.
Thanks Dutchman! I just hope I don't have to do that again, it was the 1st time I have ever tried to "clean" a coin. Needless to say I was a nervous wreck when I did it. Yes it turned out great, no I dont want to ever do it again, LOL!
