Yes, thanks again for running the contest. I tend to focus on the disastrous misses, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well I (and most of the rest of us!) did -- I honestly expected to have a hard time getting within 2 points on average. Thanks for the practice, and for the encouragement!
Yep, the rare and endangered Pacific Coast Jackalope. That one snuck up on us and took the picture.
Been a pleasure guys..... Congrats to Raider, SRO and the Duke. You guys rock! Again, my thanks to Biggy for the contest and to Baha for his excellent re-cap and play by play commentary.
Dion, terribly sorry I forgot to mention you. As in all things someone has to finish last. The "goat" is a term they use at West Point for the cadet finishing last in his class. It's a very honorable distinction and one that many notable graduates of that institution have held. The fact that they finished last by no means diminished their ability to excel in their careers. In many cases they performed more to their abilities than those who finished higher. Hats off to you Dion and thanks for holding us together here, for surely if we didn't have a "goat", the bottom would have dropped out on this contest......
Krispy and I both had the bottom but I guess we read the rules in a different way. I thought you had to keep your overall average under 7, not each coin by itself. Darn, I was really looking forward to winning a loop so I could see coins better... Or maybe a coin that is so smooth you can't tell what it is... I am just looking forward to seeing what you have won. Thanks for the contest, I learned that I grade some coins harder then the TPGs and that I have no business buying coins in the 60's.
Actually you are correct the total average could not be over 7 so if you and krispy pm me your addresses I will send you both something
Don't worry about it, I think the 7 on each coin actually makes more sense. I learned quite a bit during the contest, prize enough by itself. Next time I will be shooting for middle of the pack!
Big please send camlov my prize. And thanks again for the education! but it seems I'm always a bridesmade and never a bride
I'm afraid to see what it might be! Did you see the video Baja posted? Watch what you wish for you just might get it. If it's a loop Big can send it your way as I have a microscope that I use.
Fun contest for sure. Makes me wonder how the professional graders come up with some of their grades...I bet it can't be easy. This was a good exercise for me because I really don't look at too many mercury dimes or morgans. If some circulated coins would have been thrown in, I think it would have added a whole other level to the contest.
I actually found that I graded better when I didn't enlarge the pictures on my computer. When I enlarged I started to mark down coins for every little speck. I will never collect morgan's, I don't know if I personally have ever seen one I could grade upper sixties (bag marks just kill it for me).
I also have a problem with the marks on Morgans. It would seem to be much simpler, but for whatever reason, it escapes me. I loved the contest it was fun. Thanks biggie!!! I also want to thank Bahabully for the running commentary. It was fun to see the awards and the comments.
Kewl! Thanx!!! I thought when I looked at the previous round scores I had a shot to hit last place, but then I'm not the best gambler by estimating stats so I thought I got shut down for my attempt... PM on the way... :smile Congrats Raider & DionHurst ...and... A big thank you to bigjpst & bahabully
OK so Duke donated his prize to camlov, camlov said donate to someone maybe a YN, but in all fairness these three fellas should have the first shot. Can't even give these darn cents away:devil: .......so, first one of these three to post in this thread that they want them either gets the roll of cents or donate to a specific person you want them to go to.
Ok mikenoodle has contacted me with a YN in mind for the prize so pending his answer they have a home....
