This note was sold on January 10, 2011 for $575 - link: Heritage auction And here’s the same note currently on eBay, closing March 15, 2011 - link: eBay auction I've tried to contact this eBay seller twice - no response so far. Can't say for sure that this seller doctored the note, but I do know that it's not the only doctored bill this seller has put up for sale on eBay...
I personally never buy from Flea bay..not that there are no legit dealers there, I am sure they are, simply because I prefer to establish a personal relationship with my Dealers. One of my principals is to know who I am buying from and have a clear understanding of where each of us stand. I can count on 1 hand ( well 1.5 hands) the number of people I work with on currency. Just my take on this type of situation...
wow ... thanks for posting It makes me wonder why PMG doesnt keep an online directory of PMG graded notes by serial number. Something that cant be done with coins
Interesting, he says the note is still crisp and more overall the color is extremely different as well, much lighter and he makes no note of PMG or the certification. I am going to have to say fake! Someone call the secret service!!!! LOL
Not fake but possibly doctored. I've read about a few notes being resurrected with higher grades. The seller of this note has a neg. feedback from a buyer stating "$5K for a chemically treated piece of crap."
I just reported this item and encourage everybody else to do the same it,s obviously Been enhanced and is phony!!
I don't think the note is doctored. It looks like a cheap Photoshop job to me. Overall you can see how washed out the Ebay images are, not to mention you can plainly see where he did a poor job masking the crease and stain lines on the obverse on both sides of the portrait. I'd bet the winner receives the note in the condition represented by the Heritage images. Guy
There would be noway to mistake the two thinking your going to get the nice version And the piece of junk show,s up in your mail box!! there would be a very big difference In the money shelled out as well!! >(
well unfortunately this is nothing new. there use to be a lot of ebay sellers that buy sub par notes and then "fix" them to resell. its just like with coins. you need to be aware of what you are trying to purchase and educate yourself on what you need to look for. usually when someone is selling doctored notes its not just 1 or 2 that they are selling. buyer beware :thumb:
