I have never really looked at it for grade. I just thought the look was cool. I will get it out and see if I can see why it is a 63.

    Yes we did....

I need to create a poll to find out how many people that is happening to and then get to the bottom of why it is happening, since apparently this has been a problem for some users for quite a long time.

Here is a new Shield Holder labeled as 64RB that exhibits some "graining" on the reverse Lots of stuff going on with this coin. Why it got designated as RB shows that PCGS can be really strange, there is no red on this coin and it was just recently slabbed. maybe a oops? who knows.

I shot this to try and capture the luster however because of the amount of oxidized copper on the surface, light doesn't reflect back to the lens very well. If you zoom all the way in - the radial flow lines are very clear - so i guess you can visualize the cartwheeling luster?

    anyways....

I can post this way, but for those with out High Speed Internet it apparently it takes too long for the image to load. How does clicking on these thumbnails work for you? Too long to load?

    Eye...
I use both Firefox and Chrome and have no problems with the size of your photos. My browsers automatically resizes the content I view on the web page. Sometimes it can be helpful to do the CTRL+Scroll Wheel up or down , to make things fit within a window.

Only slabbed cent!!! Whatever!!! There's still plenty of time for you to see the light and get more of them ;) I guess if you only have one though that one is pretty cool.

I wouldn't say they purposely downgrade woodies, I have several in higher grades including this one which I've posted before and which was imaged by Todd. Probably one of my favorite coins, especially for the price I paid for it! PCGS MS66RB

It's true, the coins you have are the exception, not the rule. Also notice you got the RB designation, most woodies get BN.

Fair enough and I agree for the most part that usually the woodies are given lower grades than they maybe should, but not always. Mine aren't the only high grade woodies out there, that's for sure. Seems like any cent with a little bit of toning that isn't brown or red will usually be called an RB coin (even if the coin should probably be called an BN or even RD). Of course there are exceptions to that as well. Bottom line though, when you have some really attractive woodies like the ones posted in this thread, the grade isn't too relevant as the value is really in the overall eye appeal of the coin. I know I'd love my 66RB VDB just as much if it were in a 66BN holder, 65RB holder, 64BN holder or whatever!

Indeed my friend, indeed! It's all about eye appeal and what we like.
