I have a $30 Spending budget, I have no luck on ebay. I want to find as many TRULY UNSEARCHED wheat pennies for this price or as Many Honestly searched wheat pennies for this price. Has anybody found an honest seller on ebay with decent prices for wheat pennies? Please help
To be honest, I doubt it's possible on ebay. I bet you could find decent prices, but getting anything other than commons would probably be tough. As far as truly unsearched goes, that's an entirely different thing, you could never possibly know until you already purchased and searched them for yourself.
Yes, these coins were last minted in 1959. There is no way to know for sure that no one "searched" those particular coins in all those years. Maybe find an older person with their change jar from the 40's or 50's. Like he said, I don't think its possible on ebay.
Sorry to be a stickler for detail but 1958 was the last year for the Wheat Reverse. Unless it was a typo, in which case carry on. :thumb:
Sorry EvilKidsMeal, I misread your post...but I agree, I don't think it's possible to know if they're truly unsearched. -LTB
You can try craigslist in your area. I have found a person or so that I have told that I am a collector looking to expand my collection, and they were actually sympathetic to my cause. I got 11 Morgans for $165 when spot was almost $20 from a guy. I will have to post them sometime. Some look pretty nice.
No harm done. That's pretty awesome for jallengomez, and I would say most likely a once in a lifetime thing. It just kinda stinks that theres no way to know unless you buy, and by then it may be too late. Especially after seeing alot of threads about ridiculous ebay findings where people are asking thousands upon thousands for common circulated coins. It would be too hard to trust anyone on ebay IMO. I'm not saying you won't find honest people, jallengomez obviously did, but it would be very difficult. Oh well though, I guess since the OP has a $30 budget he won't lose out too much if a seller is less than honest about "unsearched".
While I do agree completely I am primarily asking for knowledge has anyone on CT bought from an Ebay seller offering "Unsearched" for a decent price and was satisfied if so what is the ebayers store webadress.
You can always check the feedback for the sellers of "unsearched wheats" and see what the response is from previous buyers. I think you'll find the majority of them find one or two decent coins on the ends of the rolls and the rest will be from the 50's.
I bought the last thousand wheaties from a person on Ebay who clearly wasn't an enthusiast but a very nice lady non the less. Paid about 30 bucks to my front door... Did get a bunch of teens, along with a 1909-P which was great since the mission was to fill my book... No key dates and a few semi keydates along with a few mint states... You have to remember that many of these Keydates where almost impossible to find in the 30's let alone 80 years after the fact... But? You never know? Someone always wins the Lotto even though the odds are 50,000,000:1??? BTW:The very idea that they are selling a lot of "only" wheaties means they have been search...
My take on it is that most Wheat cents have very likely been searched by someone at some point in time by now. But some do get missed, and sometime varieties are discovered that people were not aware of before. I haven't had luck with Wheats at all, but been very fortunate searching modern cents in rolls I buy from the bank. I have never found a single Wheat I needed from "unsearched" rolls no matter where I bought them from. But others have.It takes a lot of luck. So I would buy them where I could get the greatest number of coins for my money. IMHO gary
A very good point overlooked by most. Some even advertize "unsearched teens, twenties, and thirties wheaties. I'd like to see the machine that can separate wheaties by dates.
I really don't think it's possible any more. Unless someone comes up with bags or rolls that were lost in the back of a bank vault for over fifty years, the chance for a truly unsearched roll is pretty slim.
It's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities that there could be, somewhere, an original Mint-sewn bag of Wheaties, but it would only be a single date/mm. With that said, even if a bag surfaced, I would want to examine the stitching on the bag carefully to ensure that it had not been resewn. Chris
My point about craigslist is that a lot of the people selling on here inherit the coins from parents/grandparents that were collectors. From what I've seen there are a lot of people that hoard/purchase bags/sets that get stored away and never searched. Here is a guy that got coins from his grandpa trying to sell them on CL: From the looks of this collection they have been stored in this foot locker for many many years. My coins from when I was a kid have been stored away for at least 30 yrs until I just started getting the bug again. There are a lot of cents in this collection from what I can tell, I'm hoping to get some!!!
Iv had a decent bit of luck with ebay interms of unsearched pennys for the most part its been a mix of 1896-1954 and the prices are ok I got mine for like 3 bucks a roll. Id say do your research and your still edgey about it stick with bank boxes.
I just love when someone is selling "Unsearched wheat pennies, Lost in a bank vault for 70 years", and then you check out the reviews you see people getting coins from the 2000's
