http://cgi.ebay.com/1856-Flying-Eag...88?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item53e5b8fa20 Its really cool to just look at!
It's a great-looking 63, too, at least judging by those photos, which might explain the huge premium over typical 63s, but why's the guy trying to sell something like that on the 'bay?
That's one well struck flying eagle considering the lettering is week. Since it techniquely is a pattern they were probably still adjusting the dies to get an even strike . JMHO rzage
It is nice. You put it on ebay because lots of people will over pay for coins. I have seen several of these in hand and they are so cool. The local shop had two for a while last year - I would look at them every so often. Even the cleaned on looked decent enough to buy - the color was definetly off on it. This is one I will probably never own, but dream about. Sigh.
Probably because the fees are comparable to an an auction house, and there's a larger audience. That's definitely a fantasy coin of mine that I can confidently say that I will never own. -LTB
This kind of surprises me because I would think anyone able to drop $25K on a coin would be sophisticated enough to know about other auction houses where prices might be more competitive. But I guess having money and being shrewd don't always go hand in hand.
