What could have taken out the E...and just the E ...on this 1920 Lincoln?

Could have been a pellet or BB from a high powered air rifle.
Coin rollers can shear off individual letters and numbers on coins.
Just think if they were actually aiming for the E, heh, wish I were that good of a shot.
