Hey gang! I thought it would be fun to track this auction and see how good you guys are at pricing these things. This coin is for sale through Stacks Bowers in their Baltimore auction in a couple of weeks. It's really a one looker and the colors are very vivid. Greysheet bid is $245. Here are my pictures: Here are the pictures from the auction company: I can post a link to the auction if the Mods allow it. I do have to say that this is my coin so I don't want to break the rules and post links to my stuff outside of the proper forums. Rather then break the rules if you want the information just PM me. So what will it hammer for???
$1250-$1500 Maybe it's me, it seems like your pictures are juiced compared to the Auction House pictures.
Most '80-S MS 66 are selling in the $300 range on eBay. Of course, they're blast white. The few toners go for considerably more, so I'll guess $1000-$1250.
I wouldn't call them juiced... I try to make my pictures look exactly (or as close as I can get) to how it looks in hand. I don't mess with the color settings (which I consider juicing) just brightness, contrast, and lighting.
That's a gorgeous toner. $1,250-$1,500 incl. BP. If anyone's interested, there's a Toning Premium Thread where many different issues with various levels of tone have been posted to be guessed on.
I wouldn't hazard a guess as anything can happen in auctions, from 1 or 2 bidders, to around a dozen in a bidding frenzy over desperation to add that beautiful, toned 1880 to their collection.
Maybe its just me but why didn't you send that into NGC for regrade? Looks to have full blown luster and a shot at a star.
Cause in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter what the slab says on this coin as long as it is in a slab. It'll go for the same price regardless.
Well - I personally(just my humble opinion) would not pay more than recent auctions disregarding any toning. Now I think this is a nice coin(but not sure spectactular), but figure only double to triple the bid. Now it could be two toning bidders get into a bidding war and then the sky is the limit. Just my humble forecast.
I beg to differ.......I support my coin collecting habits by buying and resubmitting and selling. But trust me Im not complaining I was just trying to help.
I understand what you are saying. I do the same thing on a regular basis. But this coin in an MS64 holder and this coin in an MS66 holder SHOULD sell for very nearly the same price. Why? Because the premium involved with this coin really isn't the grade... it's the toning.
Alright I like you and dont want to argue. Im just saying a star and a grade bump certainly wouldnt hurt anything all it can do is help......For all you know this coin could get bumped to MS68 star. It just happend on the PCGS forum with the same type of holder and the same grade (MS66). I wish you the best luck with the auction! :thumb:
I'm not arguing, just having a spirited discussion... that's what we are here for right? I think that if resubmitted it wouldn't get a grade bump... the coin honestly is graded correctly at a 66 IMO. The motivation to not regrade it was that it is in an older generation holder. I'd rather have this coin in an older fatty holder as a 66 then in a new holder as a 66*. It's just a personal thing really.
To dredge this one back up... this coin is selling tomorrow so we will have a result in. If you haven't voted please do.
It looks like this coin sold for $2,750. I'm not sure if this includes the BP or not... their system hasn't updated this coin to the sold section but it did sell last night.
