I have an 1828 half penny that appears to have been gold plated. I understand that this was done in the past becuase it looked like the 5 dollar coins and was easy to pass as such. My question is, does this increase or decrease the value of this item.
This was done with the 1883 Liberty V Nickel, not the half cent. The original 1883 Liberty V Nickel had the V on the back, but it never said "cents" on the reverse, so it would be used to fool people. I don't know about that half penny. It looks gold-ish, but it might just be dipped/exposed to something?
Thanks for the quick response. It does have a little more shine then photos show, but I think you are absolutely correct, your answer rang a bell on the " No Cents".
Is your coin a Half Penny (Great Britain) or a Half Cent (United States)? edit - - - - Never mind. I posted my question before the photo loaded.
