Ya, I have a very nice uncirculated 1930 Gold Bolivar from Venezuela. Just curious what it is worth. It says that it is 3.2258 Grams and is .900 LEI which must be its purity. Does it carry any premium over spot?
According to the 2011 Standard Catalog of World Coins, 500,000 were minted and the prices range from $140 in XF to $185 in BU, so I guess there is not much of a premium over the spot. Still, there is a note that says that only 10% of the total mintage was released (the balance remaining as part on nation's gold reserve). No wonder why there aren't too many around! This is a very interesting coin indeed...
One thing to keep in mind with books is that there can be some lead time from the pricing to the release of the book. And even more time after the release of the book until the time one checks the price of a coin. During that time, the price of silver and gold has increased substantially. So, there could actually be quite a large premium over the spot price. I keep wishing the book publishers would state what the spot price was when the collected the prices, or at least a date range, so that we can research the spot price.
