and this is no reflection on the OP willieboyd (a long standing member here and good guy)

would you admit in a public forum that they were yours?

Certain "hate groups" have a stigma surrounding them, including KKK items and Nazi paraphernaila. Other items, such as Confederate notes or Japanese WWII coinage... less so. History is not always pleasant. But it is still history.

I agree, no matter how disturbing the content of items of this nature may be, its still history.I leanred to acccept this a few years back
I remember a few years back, one of the coin dealers I frequent who also sold small scale cast toy soldiers, had a display in which there was one of Hitler standing up at a podium, giving the salute, to hundreds of German soldiers.
It kind of caught me off guard, but when he saw me look at it and say "Oh My God", he responded in exactly the same manner as you all. "Its still History".
BTW, these toy soldier displays he had scattered around his store behind glass were awsome.

Well somebody collects that stuff, I mean the real ones. I personally don't see anything wrong with collecting tokens like that as long as you don't promote hate and you're doing something useful with them. I know there's probably a bunch of skinheads or whatever who really get happy over that stuff because it supports their beliefs.

That said, I'm sure there's ppl who collect that stuff just to get it out of circulation too. Maybe a history teacher may be interested in KKK tokens to use as props, who knows? Like someone up there said, it's still history. If we never look at stuff like that or talk about how wrong it was then we are more likely to repeat it, just a thought. ;)

Agreed. There are may evil things that have happened throughout history. Humans are creatures of habit, we need to see this. They should never be forgotten and be taught to our children.

why would someone be motivated to collect them though? kind of speaks volumes in itself.

    History I guess.
Just like people collect slave tokens, hard time tokens or civil war tokens.
I myself collect Civil War tokens and don't think those are that far removed from these either.
Pretty much all country's had slaves and it's a darn good thing that we don't now a day's. Shoot should we no collect anything from ancient Egypt? They had slaves...lots of them. Irish were slaves for a very long time too but we don't hide that fact.
I'm not supporting the KKK or the institution of slavery at all. Just remembering the history.
Just like i have a German Luger but don't like Nazi's at all.

I'm not really sure what slavery has to do with an organization that terrorized blacks, jews and catholics. Plus the fact of the matter is that they still exist.
    dog whistle politics.

I'm not getting in a debate here.
There is no dog whistle politics here and resent the comment.
Matter of fact I meant no politics at all. I am opposed to the KKK, Slavery, ect. I do not collect these medals.
Maybe I am just naive but I don't think the KKK is really around much anymore.

I used to say that I would not have any coins from
Mongolia until they apologized for the war crimes
committed by Ghengiz Khan, but I broke down
last year and bought two Mongolian coins.

I'm a history buff and a WWII buff. I would love to be able to put together a set of WWII era coinage from every country involved Russian, French, U.S., English, Italian, Polish, Japan, ETC... yes including German Nazi coins. It's about the history not the politics. So if you were putting together a collection of American history coinage I can see why you would want these tokens.

Duke, I love ya like my own brother and I am NOT making a debate, but they not only exist, but are very much alive and well. They have been driven mostly underground and don't show themselves openly as often as they used to, but trust me, their agenda and their tactics, their hatred and their propaganda have not been extinguished, but merely exchanged for whispers among the crowd in society.
