For all the guys/gals that fill folders, What has been the toughest coin for you to find for your folder collections that was post 1930? My folders are really not that far allong but believe it or not I have not found a single 2009 dime or nickel P or D! Ha
Lately it has been 2009 coins. Up until his birthday, my dad hadn't filled the 1931-S Buffalo. So, like a good son, I helped him out.
Bought. You generally don't find war nickels in change much anymore. Sure, there is the occasional wheat cent, but that's about it.
To each his/her own really. It depends on what grade of coin you want to display. For my 7070 I went with a very high grade coin that I wasn't going to find. My father on the other hand, filled the slots in his album with coins that were found. The joy in collecting is that you can make it whatever makes you feel good.
i have found all of my jefferson's in rolls to fill my albums, cents were too, until u hit like he teens - the 20's, i do have all nickels and dimes so far, my halves has came from rolls also, except for the 87's and a 1982 d, and what was weird i found a 70 d in a roll.but the coins i really need so far for my folders is 1914s, 1911 s and 31 wheat cents.1921 and 1921 d mercury dimes,a 1986d , and a 1999D 50 cent pieces, my buffalos are finished, my jeffersons are finished and my roosevelt dimes and washiington quarters are finished- excluding the state quarters. i usually go to the banks and go hog wild with rolls, until i can get most of them, i was lucky though one of my cousins gave me his buffalo folder and all i had to do was to buy like 2 of them, the 1914d, and the 1917s. you will always find that one elusive coin that you can never get, but just keep trying and eventually you will get it
I assume you mean modern, non-silver stuff because you're not going to find much of that in circulation. I ended up buying the 2009s because I was sick of waiting, but I also ended up having to buy a 1978 and 1969 quarter. There's nothing rare about them but I just never found one.
War nickels are more common than you'd think, Alex. I recently searched a box of nickels and found 16 war nickels in various rolls. Many don't know that they're silver, they just think that they're ugly because they are a blackish color. 90% even shows up if you search enough coins. The key is to keep searching.
Thanks, but it wasn't a big expense. I just got to the point where I was asking if I'd rather keep searching my change every day or just spend a couple bucks and finally fill the album. I still check my change but now I don't have to worry about remembering which dates and mintmarks I need for that elusive set.
I'm still looking for a 1970D half. I have read posts about people finding them so I'm not giving up.
