Received this in change today at the gas station. Is this a flip-over double-struck mint error? Thanks...
Thanks everybody. It's amazing some of the things one comes across and I certainly was surprised in getting this coin in change. By the way, I'm working hard on the upcoming Die Variety News (DVN) magazine March 2011 issue #22 which will be online in about a week. It's shaping up to be more than 100 pages of varieties, mint errors, articles, recent new listings and much, much more. I also started a DVN "News & Announcements" web page and if you get a chance stop by for the latest news and happenings. Good luck in your collecting and searching endeavors. Billy
Thanks... DVN #22 will be online this coming Tuesday with over 100 pages (our largest issue yet). DVN reader submissions have increased exponentially with some very nice doubled dies we will be illustrating to be on the lookout for. I hope this issue is informative and helpful in your collecting and searching endeavors. Regards, Billy
What has that got to do with anything? Flip over doublestrikes happen on other denominations as well (or at least they did). If there weren't cents, someone would have turned up a five cent piece with one. OK so the cost would have been five cents instead of one cent.
Nice find! Isn't this kind of backwards---we're supposed to find these and you're supposed to authenticate them? Thanks for the heads up on the new issue. Will be looking for it.
LOL! I hear ya! Many times I have heard people say there is nothing to find in coins anymore. To those people I say by all means don't look at your change. By all means, don't search your coins. Because that leaves more things for me to find just like this 1999 cent!!! I'm laughing all the way to the bank Billy
