I also took a Lil road trip after hearing some of the success stories ... Drove three hours away from my neck of the woods and hit up 14 banks... Only found 147$ of loose and crw which netted 4 x 40%ers ... Also was able to find 13 Ike dollars...

At least I found some silver :)

    You're Welcome. Good find !

Hey the reason we are here is to promote our hobby through sharing information. I know there are a lot of members with very nice, expensive collections who willingly teach us a lot. Honestly, if I had not read about someone wanting to remove the vedigris from a 1988 cent, I would not have learned about the 88 reverse 89 rare transition cent. I checked the coins I had seperated in my last box and found a 1988 D reverse 89. It is now one of the 3 coins shown in the ANACS pop report and one of the believed 12 that have been discovered. This can be the most thrilling hobby many of us can partake in. As roll searchers, we don't even need to invest money. Just buy coins with cash and spend them after looking at them. Man, I love doing this !

Thanks for posting that. I wondered WHY even mess with a 1988 ! LOL But I saw I was not the only one. Read about it, looked it up on line at the other sites, and went looking. Actually, that D was sitting in a sort cup on my desk !! Unbelievable ! I sent it to CONECA and ANACS. It came in at AU55. Last I looked ANACS shows 1 AU40 & 2 AU55.
Man I spent months trying to run down the other 10 or so known specimens and actually corresponded with the owners of 8 of them. all are owned by 4 -5 people.

I know Ive heard about CWRs time and time again, but what banks carry these. Most banks want the money counted and then it spits out a receipt from the machine. Are these small town banks that we are talking about?

Bare with me on this.....Every bank I go to( about 14 different ones) will only take loose change NO rolls. And out of that 14 there about 3 that dont accept coins at all.

I went to the bank today and picked up $ 10 in pennies and $ 20 in nickels. Nickels were nothing special though I did find a 1939. The pennies had a couple of wheats in them, then I came across this cutie pie from 1940 (pic below). It is beat up a little, but I've never run across such a nice color while roll searching.

This should satisfy my "Jones" until my boxes of halves come in from the bank on Thursday!

That's strange, because I use 6 different banks in my area and NONE of them will accept loose coins. They will take rolls, but if you have loose ones, they refer you to Coinstar. I got $200 in quarters right after the person in front of me cashed them in. Nada !

Do you think it has been cleaned, or colored somehow?
