Oldest wheat I've found so far is a 1918 Philly. No Indian heads yet. I think I've done atleast 20 boxes, maybe more.

  6. I found a 1918 in my last box. I only own two Indian Heads: 1898, and 1901. Got the 1901 from my grandfather and bought the 1898 from a bargain bin

Can someone explain to me what is meant by 'bank bags?' Does this refer to the bags used by machines to count change? Or are they just bags that hold errant change the teller's use? I've only bought boxes, but people seem to be getting very lucky with these so-called bags. What are they?

The bags as it ws explained to me are from the bank coin counting machines. This is loose change that John Q public has turned in. So far, I have not had any luck finding or buying on as some on here have.

I don't really get it because if someone buys a bag from where I dump they are going to be upset.

My credit union won't sell these bags from their coin changer either. Various explanations i.e. Against CU policy, inaccurate amount totalled by coin counter, etc. It counts everything from cents to halves too. I don't know who controls the coin chager ripoff machine in Stop&Shop but I'd like to know so I could ask if I could buy a bag or two.

Yesterday, I asked a teller at a TD Bank if she had any halves and she said she had one. It turns out it was a 1968-D.

  11. Lucky! I go there every week, and only once they had like, 4. All past 2000

The banks I go to have no time for people looking for coins, I ask what they have and no one ever wants to deal with me looking for halfs or wanting rolls of coins. How do you handle getting coins from banks? Also where do you take them all back to when your done with them? same bank or different?

When you say "no one ever wants to deal with me," are you referring to banks in general, or banks you have accounts with? Most banks will not cater to non-customers; if you are a bank member, they should be able to help you. This assumes that it's a national, commercial bank; I know local credit unions and rural banks are probably less likely to provide change services. I order boxes from Bank of America on a weekly schedule; I get 2 boxes a week for $1,000, so there is no charge or anything. I, like many others here also, bring all my searched change to a 'dump' bank, which has a change counter. This is to minimize the likelihood of re-searching coins, although some in the past have questioned how effective this practice really is.

These so called dump banks allow you to bring in 1000's of dollars worth of coins? Also I should open accounts with other banks just for their services?

President's Day is killing me! I still have class, so the federal holiday does me no good. I'm suffering from CRH withdrawals! It's okay though, tomorrow's huge road trip is fast approaching! My partner/competitor got a bag of $75 worth of Ike's the other day. 3 silver clads in it. He spent the rest at the Hot Springs horse races. Bet 30 Ikes and won $250!

Did a box of cents yesterday, completely forgettable. About 10 canadians and 6 common-date wheats... went 31 rolls between wheats, a new record for me.

Todays box was a solid notch above that.

Honestly, a 6 figure deposit makes them want to deliver them to your door for you. But I have learned to only go to banks during "off" hours when there are very few customers. I offer to swap rolls, so they will have coins for business. Then I ask if they have spare rolls they can sell. I even explain that I am trying to complete some coin books someone gave me for Xmas and looking for the different ones. I NEVER say I am searching Silver ! And if a teller offers me anything at all from the tray or an unusual roll, I take it. Even if I don't want it. And always express my gratitude for them thinking of me. I bounce around to about 6 different banks, as to not wear out my welcome. Try and be as unobtrusive as possible. Eliminate those who won't be bothered with you. Eventually open some savings accounts in different banks, so you get treated as a customer/client.

Most searchers have gone through what you are right now and have developed techniques that work for them to get the coins to search. And you will find something that works for you too.

    Good luck,
    gary

I got some bad news today. I got a call from a branch manager that I talked to last week, and she said that Loomis in our area refuses to deliver half dollars anymore. This may or may not be true. We'll see when I talk to Bank of America tomorrow. But either way, I ended up having an awesome day. I got soooo bored around noon, so I started picking random banks on Google Maps just trying to see if anyone was open. I ended up finding a bank 2 hours from home that had $300 in CWR. I had nothing better to do, so I picked up and went out there. It turns out only $40 was CWR, the rest were bank wrapped. But it only took $20 of the CWR to find 26 40%ers. That paid for all my gas, dinner tonight, and 2 or 3 more road trips to find even more!

A local bank was kind enough to order a box of halfs... I really envy those of you that have easy access to boxes of halves... But that box netted 16 x 40%ers ... Was really happy with that kind of results gonna take some cupcakes or doughnuts to that branch in the morning
